Came across this article. It's interesting. Here is a snipet:

The grandest of mediocrities, Joe Philbin is not an NFL coach. He is a shrinking violet garbed in an aqua polo and adorned with a headset. He is a man unloved by his players, outwitted by his rivals and overwhelmed by his duties. An "offensive mind," Philbin does not call his own plays. That leaves his primary function as "leading." This is not good because Philbin’s primary failing is leadership.
Not every NFL coach is going to be Pete Carroll or Mike Ditka. Loud does not equal "lead." But if you’re going to be the quiet type, you better have a firm grasp on the pulse of your team. This is something Philbin insisted he didn’t have when he pled ignorance again and again in the Dolphins’ "Bullygate" scandal. Philbin’s locker room was fracturing into factions, and whether it was willful or intentional, he had no idea.
Once Philbin finally does discover his problems, he ships them out instead of coaching them up. Brandon Marshall and Vontae Davis have both thrived since Philbin sent them packing, while the Dolphins have spent millions and many draft picks trying to replace them.
Not that Philbin’s failures all come behind closed doors. As a game manager, his top innovation has been calling late timeouts on defense in one-score games. This brilliant tactic helped produce two wins in 2014 … for the Packers and Lions. Philbin’s other specialty is dialing up field goals. Unfortunately for Dolphins fans, only five teams had worse field-goal percentages last season. Philbin is John Harbaugh if he never won. He’s Mike Tomlin if he never showed fire. He’s Jason Garrett if he never smiled. He is the worst coach in the NFL

An interesting perspective...

For the record, I agree with most of the assessment about Philbin. Some of the other stuff about the roster remains to be seen after the draft and completion of the off season, but as for Philbin, the thing that upsets me the most about him is that he doesn't get rid of his ineffective assistants. The fact that he didn't fire Coyle is absolutely inexcusable if you ask me. He's weak...

This is super old material that they stuck in a April 2nd article to help pats fans sleep better at night. I'm behind Joe, we're gonna bust ass this year!

I don't care if Dolfans are behind Joe Philbin . . . he's the coach, and if you want success for the Dolphins you have to have some faith in your head coach.

But even his supporters have to admit that the author of the article pretty much nailed the analysis of Joe Philbin. It's freakishly accurate, to the point where you just have to say "I don't care, I still like Joe".

There is no comeback to that article.

I disagree with the D-Line depth. Odrick was the only loss in that regard and his replacement is Suh. Starks was terrible last year compared to his prior self so letting him walk is OK in my book. Let the younger guys have a shot.

This team has been average at best. Less than average at times.

Letting the youth have a shot can't be any worse than using the product that has been on the field the last 7 years.

The Pats have done the same things at times but their moves are heralded as brilliant because they have Tom Brady, something Miami hasn't had since Marino. Tennehill is the best option since but he isn't Brady and he damn sure isn't even close to Marino.

People forget that for all Billy boy's success he also was deems a huge failure in Cleveland without a QB named Tom.

Yet he has managed to split with the Pats the last two seasons.

If u look at then entire link that snippet was only a small part of it...

I understand that, but the snippet you posted was apart of another article that was posted a month or so ago. When you read the title "Dolphins offseason through a patriots lens" I was expecting something directly from the author . . . not something he copied and pasted from another source.

All that aside, there are some valid points in that article but I think he, like many others, are underestimating the value of Suh. Yes, it's a big contract, but you rarely get a chance to get a guy that dominant in his prime and he will improve the entire defense. I'm ok with that gamble.

The idea of having 6 players in 2016 taking up over half your cap is a scary one. Miami has to draft well . . . or it will end up ugly.

I don't consider the snippet above a valid argument. Anyone using the "bullygate" scandal to say Joe didn't have a hold on his locker room is weak. It just isn't valid to me. Your team is a band of brothers and if you're a grown man you should be able to talk things out like adults. This situation was just Martin being weak SOB. Point. Blank. Period.

ehhh our losses weren't good players they were guys making too much money and not producing...so this is pretty dumb...odrick and starks to suh is a no brainer...yeah we gonna have to hope he stays healthy and those kid dts we have sat on last year are gonna have to be a part of the rotation but at least they have upside...the part about tannebaum wrecking depth looks legit right now but i'll wait til i see that training camp roster before i sweat that one too much...i do think it's a legitimate concern though...hopefully tannebaums learned some lessons

whats this about $12.5 mil guaranteed to jordan cameron??? that's not the way i understand it...think he's way off there...

just have to play some kids but at least they got talent and we aren't propping up some dead weight veteran carrying a large cap number with game reps they dont deserve

Joe Philbin has had some issues but he has not been our main problem. We have been in striking distance of the playoffs each of the last two years, we need to finish strong this year. I do question our defensive staff but the team is very close. A strong draft and finish to free agency could have this team in the playoffs and peaking right when we start to see the decline of the Patriots, which I think we will begin seeing this year.

At the time of the Philbin hire, Jeff Fisher was the sexy choice. Despite having a bounty of draft picks that he inherited, Jeff Fisher has been consistently been outperformed by Joe Philbin. On top of that, the Dolphins are in a better position moving forward. There are man other coaches Philbin has outperformed in his tenure so the original article is way off.

This can be a great year for us.
