Truth is, for the last [too many wasted years] this team has had no identity on offense, unless you consider “cut and paste†an identity!?

My opinion is this… Ronnie Brown is a power football player, and he is the kind of back you can build an offense around. That said --- this teams #1 need (hemorrhaging on the operating table) is to build a legitimate OL as a counterpart to RB. I also believe, based on what Cam has stated relative to his “philosophy,†this is where we’re finally going!

Historically, teams with dominant OL’s are perennial championship contenders year in and year out. And great OL’s tend to make QB’s and RB’s a LOT better than they would be otherwise. Bottom line, football is a line of scrimmage game, and if you’re strong up front you’ve got a real football team (instead of the phony flounders we’ve been putting on the field)!

We’ve had a cast of castoffs, has-beens and bald retreads for way too long. We need to invest HEAVILY in the OL this draft and fix the hemorrhage now!

My Draft wish list by position:

#1 OT (trade down if the opportunity to still get an impact OT exists)
>>> Whatever >>> DO NOT (DO NOT) trade up at the loss of picks! This teams needs a MASSIVE infusion, not one puzzle piece!
#2a C or G (serious road grader with massive low-end torque!)
#2b TE or C or G (depending on 2a, and get another big nasty who loves to knock people on their freaking arse and then spit on them!)

Other notes: Move Hadnot back to G, the rest of our OL “talent†is (IMO) highly questionable. Outstanding mash unit player Toledo is a huge ???, Alabi is perhaps a player, but I don’t see him as a real physical nasty SOB. Carey has proven to better than a total waste, but I don’t think he scares a CB let alone a DT. However (sadly), he’s probably the best “talent†we’ve got right now.

Use the rest of the draft to pick as many nasty FOOTBALL PLAYERS as possible and make this team Bigger, Faster, and way more aggressive!

>>> Love the addition of Porter! Big step in the RIGHT (nasty) direction!

>>> Great move getting rid the trash we had on the OL last year. But I don’t think the garbage bin is totally empty yet!

Last, I’m incredibly happy Saban got his *!#&ing junk out of town! If he had stayed, the massacre would had been brutal --- and he was smart enough to know his sham was already 100% exposed. And it’s about time we put a guy like Muller in charge of personnel. Randy, let’s get ready to play some real FOOTBALL!

PS: The Pats suck!

Good Opinion and i agree on most parts,

I don't necessarily think you need high draft picks to build your offensive line as a matter of fact CK wrote a great article regarding this very fact,Cam and Houck built great ones with mid to low round draft picks.

I believe we really like Alibi and Toledo.

I think with the first pick you go for the most explosive receiver you can get, this will help your offense as much as anything and then you go offensive line in rounds two thru seven, sprinkle in a little defense and i would be happy.

I like your opinion very much. It is exactly what I beleive should be done in the draft also. Not exactly with you on the draft an lineman in first round because I think there is so much talent out there such as if we can land Brady Quinn or maybe go with Laron Landry. If none of those are available which I highly doubt one will not be then I would say go O-line.

I understand the temptation to go after the “glamour positions†with high picks. But you get what you pay for, and cheap picks usually tend to produce “bargain†players. We don’t need another low-rent OL, we need prime beef --- something worth spending top dollar on. Top OT’s don’t slip into the middle rounds --- only “projects†slip. We need a tandem like Webb and Simms from way back in the past --- a 1st 2nd round combo that produced IMMEDIATE dividends (and lasted for many productive years).

Houck is a great OL coach --- maybe the best. All the more reason to give him the horsepower he needs to produce a DOMINATE OL, not just a workable group from a bunch of hacks. Believe me, the investment is absolutely needed, and though it isn’t glamorous --- it’s 100% part of a real football team.

Seriously, can you see Ronnie running through some REAL holes and busting up the secondary with his power? I can, and that coupled with an efficient passing game and solid D = a winning combination!

Quinn could be a real player, but only if we can unload Pep for some draft scratch should we even consider that. Pep can be a player if we build the right system around him, and that means a POWER offense with some big play strike to keep defenses somewhat honest. Keep in mind if can run the football --- it opens so many options for picking your spots. Our offense has been chuck-and-duck and scratch-and-sniff for way too long…

BTW the last great QB (Marino) we had had the benefit of coming into a situation with a very solid OL. The OL makes a huge difference for ALL skill positions…
.

I like the picks expect for the 2nd round choices. I think with the first one wew pick up Drew Staton or we get a center. With the second pick in round 2 we need to get a qb or a WR. In all we should be able to pick up a QB, OL or WR in the second round.

I am pretty much with you...we need to fix the line first or no #9 receiver will make a difference anways. My draft preference at this point would be:

#1: Trade down and/or draft Levi Brown OT
#2A: Stanton QB or Kalil C (move Rex to LG)
#2B: OL if we take Stanton, TE if we take Kalil

Getting Kalil we could move Rex to LG, and then all we need is a LT whether it be by draft or possibly Alibi stepping up. Toledo could provide good depth or compete for a position, and I would feel very comfortable with that line for the next 5 yrs or so.

I like your post, with the exception of the Carey part. I think, and a lot of football insiders think that he is a very good RT, not just adequate, and not just adequate on our team, but a very good RT. His production numbers, (a breakdown of runs to his side, and how he graded out on each one) i read it somewhere and cant remember where it was, but they were very, very good. Amoung the elite in the entire NFL.

Id be happy with that. If we cant trade down, pick up a Laron Landry, Okoye, or Olson. Brown at 9 is a big reach. Just because hes a LT and the draft is short on them doesnt make him worth the 9th pick.

Pound the gball..if cpepe is healthy..playaction..deep bmb..you already know who..))
with al lthat syaed..WE WONT BE ABLE TO POUND THE BALL or call playaction..if we dunt have an oline...
