after thinking about this for a few weeks I have come to the conclusion that this team is capable of making the playoffs. Before I thought about it for a while I realized we could. This is the conclusion that I came up with. This team is much better than a lot of people realize. In 2001, many fans thought that the dolphins were a superbowl contender. This team is better than them. We have a better quarterback. He can manage the game much better than Jay Fiedler. Our offensive line is just as good or better than it has been in 5/6 years. We are actually seeing the offensive line block for the quarterbacks and running backs. Also we have 2 great runnings this time around. Our backfield will be much deadlier than it had been with just Ricky Williams. Defensive Coordinators will have fits trying to gameplan against Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown.

While our offense is much better this time around, our problems may come with the defense. It bothers me seeing Steve Smith stomp all over our cornerbacks in the Panthers game. Our defense has outstanding defense against the run but for us to be a playoff contender, the dolphins need to have better coverage. Reggie Howard looks like a high school cornerback. I really wish we had kept Surtain. I knew it would be a huge mistake letting him go! Anyways I still think that we can find a serviceable cornerback. There are some quality veterans in free agency that could help us out.

I want people to realize that this team is good!! We beat out two great teams this year. Denver is always good. They killed the Chargers this season. Also the Panthers were supposed to be superbowl contenders this year. We will only get better. Ricky Williams will help us have a better running attack. I hate to make a comparison like this but the dolphins are like the white sox. No one thought they would go anywhere this season. All the white sox did all season was keep winning. It didnt really matter how they did it. Our team is the white sox of the NFL. This team will make the playoffs!

As long as we can survive the injury bug. We are thin at some key positions (CB QB, maybe DT etc.) Depending on how well role players step up, we can get in. That is beyond my expectations, but certainly possible. Any 2-1 team can be considered a playoff possibility. Why not? Like you said, we beat some good teams!

BTW, I never thought we had a contender in 2001.

Wow how off you are. This is not a suprise playoff team. Its an expeted playoff team. Last year was just a fluke.

But kidding aside I agree.

i am just enjoying one game a week, i hope we get to the playoffs for some of our older guys, but the offseason is too long to rush to the end of the year

Nice post. Very true, our defense isn't exactly top shelf when it comes to pass defense. Maybe we were spoiled the past several years with Surtain and Madison (when he was still top 5). But we are a work in progress in the secondary. I trust Nick to get the right guys in there and get them playing up to their potential. This might not be until next year though, maybe even longer. If given the choice though, I choose to be stout at run defense vice pass defense. How many times in the past few years have we seen our last chance at a comeback fall through our fingertips as our run defense got pounded while the opposing team ran out the clock?

good post, i think you make good points, lets see what happens

i am also enjoying one week at a time. But I just have a feeling that this season is different. Its hard not to think ahead. But I had to because we were so impressive against Denver and the Panthers.

I like the comparison, but I see us more as Oakland A's. Great run but we fall short somewhere. Not that I dont agree with you. I think we could go all the way if we just get rid of the penalties and make plays when we need to make them and stay healthy. I really do not know how far we will go......If we take buffalo in buffalo by storm, I say we will go 10-6 for sure. If not, I think we will go 8-8 with 8 wins in Miami. We should beat buffalo. They are beat up and the QB is lost. Our defense should do some damage against that Oline which is just bad to start and injured at that. If we lose that game, I see 8-8.

I think this is actually a possibility. At the begining of the season I never would have believed it, but if Gus continues to play well I think we do have a shot. The only dampers on my optimism is that we have not yet won on the road and we are still commiting WAY to many penilties. Also our inability to contain Steve Smith is worrying. Of those 3 things I would have to say the penilties concern me the most as they will have a great deal to do with winning on the road as well a giving other offenses more opportunities to score on us than they should have.

However it turn out this year I am just glad that we are building an organization that will be very good for a very long time imo. That was my bigest goal for the year and I think it is pretty clear we are making real strides in that direction.

this team other than that jets game that was a fluke i know we are a better team than what we showed if we are going to go anywhere this season we must win on the road.what i really like about this team is that we make adjustments we never did that in the past we were so vanilla. this team can no doubt do some damage and make the playoffs we just have to quit the stupid mistakes and shooting ourselves in the foot.

We will make the playoffs guaranteed! We are a much better team than people give us credit for.

Its hard to complain about winning on the raod when we've only played the Jets on the road.... And a game against the Jets isnt just a regular road game... for either franchise..

So ;et's hope we can make some amends.. and win game we're supposed to win (Like this in Buffalo) and play tough against teams like Tampa Bay! Which...didn't look very good this weekend... Carnell... where were you....! Oh yea.. Injured

yeah sure reggie howard sucked against the panthers, but i still think its to early to call him a j.b. brown yet, pressure is on him for sure though

i think miaimi chances of going to playoffs will come down to the last game in new england, just like a few years back in miami
