While it will be nice to have these two guys as part of the staff, I think that there is a big mistake being made that not to many are keen on: We are not protecting our intellectual property. These coaches are not just coming in here to instill there offensive and defensive schemes, but they are also coming in to learn about our head coaches' scheme of team management, motivation, analysis and preparation. Essentially these guys would walk away with full knowledge of Saban’s Coaching Style and mannerisms.

How many of you want to bet that our former offensive coordinator wooed and wowed the Ram’s Front office with the same stuff that he seen saban execute down here???

The more of these guys that leave and get heading coaching jobs the more of a competitive advantage that we loose on the field.

With the parity that we are beginning to see in the NFL when it comes to the talent level of players and positions, coaching will be what decides the winners and losers on Sundays. New England's reign of success proves that and watching the Dolphins Come back on so many teams in the 2005 season proves that.

There are not to many Sabans and Bellichekes (could be spelled wrong) out there right now, but at this rate there will be plenty to go around, very, very soon

Capers probably won't ever get any consideration for a Head Coaching job ever again. As far as Mularkey is concerned,he might know some of the defensive scheme, but our new OC will bring in a new system and terminology.

"Knowing it" and being able to do it are two entirely different things.

I mean the only way to avoid what you're saying is to have no assistants at all... and that seems like a little too much work even for Saban.

sorry, but i don't see a downside to hiring two of the best coordinators in football. they can bring more to the table then just the "average" coordinator. we can dissect the pro's and the con's about everything in this world, but sometimes one has to step up and take the bull by the horns. i commend saban for recognizing our weaknesses and trying to turn them into positives!!

you're waaaaaaaaay over analyzing this. the only bad thing about hiring proven guys is the fact that they could skip out for a head coaching gig sooner.

Same thing has happened with Parcells and his lineage. It's inevitable. I'd rather have the best coaches and win Super Bowls because of them than have morons for coaches because we're trying to protect ourselves. Do you wanna go for the juglar or curl up in a fetal position?

I clicked on the title thinking the answer was obvious........

Not having enough display shelves for all the AFC East, Conf, and SB trophies!!!;)

Last year, when Saban came in, he couldn't find anybody of any quality to be his defensive coordinator. He made do with Muschamp and Smith, the former who wasn't ready and the latter who has never set the world on fire. Now that he has an opportunity to bring in a master of the 3-4 offense and a friend to boot, Nick is supposed to pass that up? Come on now...

You can steal plays and philosphies from anyone, but once those ideas are used up and the ability to formulate new ones isn't available, you'll show yourself to be a bad imitator.

Sure Linehan might have wowed the Rams with Saban-speak, but if he can't come up with his own innovative plays and ideas for his new team and their unique situations, he'll soon fail as a HC.

There is NO downside to bringing in the two best available offensive and defensive coordinators. It's the best thing for the team...period. We should be ecstatic about this, and I really am!!!

you are giving saban WAY to much credit, he did a great job this year, but he is not shula/lombardi......lets make it to the playoffs before we give him a congressional medal of honor, also, no coach's style is the same, what works for one person, isnt what works for everyone.

;) Good Answer..

I love how people want to attach a bad side to signing two of the best coordinators in the league..

You can't replace or copy discipline, structure, intelligence, insight, accountability and motivation tactics. All they could really get away with was the playbook and they've both been head coaches. I see no downside to this. I CAN'T WAIT FOR NEXT SEASON!

Having these two positions filled with quality guys before the SB puts us light years ahead. Don't know whatthe concern is about - both are very solid adds.

On the, "we lose competitive advantage" tack - we don't have any yet. And here is the other thing, the same advatnages they could take away, are the very ones that we would gain - the Phins would have intimate knowledge of the systems and tendencies in certain situations. It works both ways.
