In my opinion there are four players who represent value at the top pick.

Glenn Dorsey
Chris Long
Branden Albert
Matt Ryan

Of those four, one will likely fail Miami's rigid size requirements. That being Glenn Dorsey. Although I believe he is the best player in the draft, I feel Miami will stick to their base principles on size. They will likely view him as being too short.

Of those four, one will likely be passed based on financial and predictability concerns. That being Matt Ryan. The bottom line is that you don't want to plant a rose in the desert...especially when you are dealing with 30+ million guaranteed. Miami will build up the talent around the quarterback and see if John Beck can get it done. This is not surprising since Beck has everything Parcells looks for in a quarterback.

That leaves Branden Albert and Chris Long. I think they will take Chris Long. However, there is no player in this draft that I would like to see run through a workout more than Branden Albert. He is so special that he makes Otah, Clady, and Long look pedestrian.

The bottom line is that I could see a scenario where Miami begins negotiations with four to five players in the next seven to ten days. Once they do, I expect those names to be Chris Long, Glenn Dorsey, Matt Ryan, Branden Albert and/or Jake Long. Of those names, I would be happy with Chris Long, Glenn Dorsey, Matt Ryan or Branden Albert. If I were a betting man I would bet on Chris Long. That said, I have to admit I will be rooting a little bit for Albert. He just reminds me so much of what I saw when I looked at Marcus McNeil a few years ago....only much more athletic. Like I said in an earlier post, don't be surprised if is considered one of four elite players to come out of this draft three years from now. And, given the position he plays, he quite possibly might be considered the best.

*Please be advised that this is merely my opinion based on the tape I have watched. Lets refrain from name calling and rely on well reasoned arguments if at all possible.*

Somehow I see another J. Long debate coming here. I think i've done it too many times to do it again, we're starting to sound like broken records. It's getting a little burnt out. I guess, what else are we supposed to do?

Please! God! Let the draft get here soon!!!!!!!!!

Maybe you were impressed with Brandon Alberts 23 bench presses versus 37 for Jake Thomas:shakeno:. Didn't Brady Quinn bench more than Albert???

Maybe it was the 7.97 second 3 cone drill which was .53 seconds behind Jake Long:shakeno:....53 seconds on a 3 cone drill is a huge number.

Maybe it was Alberts 54 knockdown blocks last season versus 119 for Jake Long.:shakeno:

Maybe it was the 5.5 sacks allowed on 428 passing plays
versus 1 for Jake Long on 423 passing plays:shakeno:

Maybe it was Alberts experience at left tackle of which he played 2 games in his career.:shakeno:

Maybe your confused on which player is better :chuckle:

I love how after the season is over a guy can go from a mid 2nd round pick to 1st overall, beautiful.

Only two of those you mentioned should be considered "Elite"....Chris Long & Dorsey.

Not having Jake Long, McFadden or Gholston as an "Elite" marks this post as a joke.

Matt Ryan.....please....he is this year's Brady Quinn....a media darling who's rep is stoked up far greater than it should be. Hopefully he won't show up at the draft in Covergirl make up like Quinn did last year.

Unbelievable. This post is a joke? Instead of lowering myself to your rather subterranean level of ignorance, I will respond in regards to why I believe each player is not elite. I realize this will bring about more name calling because you really don't have anything else in your arsenal, but I guess that is just how it is on here all to often.

Jake Long, despite his workout numbers is not an elite athlete. He struggles in his kick slide and does not redirect well. Although he could very well excel on the right side, he will struggle against quick twitch defensive ends who can get to the perimeter and redirect quickly. In addition, he struggled mightily with a variety of defenders who possessed a good bull rush. In essence, they often got underneath him with each and drove him into the backfield. It did not happen a lot, but enough that it could be an issue at the next level where people are bigger and stronger.

Darren McFadden lacks in every category except speed, acceleration and frame. He does not possess great vision. His power between the tackles his highly questionable. He is too thin. He runs to high leading to fumbles. He is not a great pass blocker and he does not always catch the ball well. In essence, there I believe there are three runners who are better than him. In fact, I believe Chris Johnson would have put up better numbers than McFadden had he been in the same system due to his power and hands.

Vernon Gholston is an elite straight line athlete, but not necessarily a great athlete overall. For instance, although he has a great first step and excellent strenth and speed, he is very stiff in the hips and does not change direction real well. To make matters worse, he took alot of plays off in college and was often a non factor for hte Buckeys. This is an issues because these things rarely change at the next level.

1st....Yeah! just like he struggled in his 4 yrs. of college, going against some of the best speed/power rushers in the nation, some who will be those great NFL edge rushers people refer to.

2nd.... Can you define "struggled mightily"?? My 1st response pretty much covers these points.

3rd....Again, the guys he went up against and dominated in college will be some of those bigger NFL guys you to refer to.(Cliff Avril, D. Harvey, etc.) where do you think they come from? They don't grow on some magical NFL tree. Not trying to be rude, just stating my opinion.

Damn! I did it again! "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in"

This post is nothing but a joke. Like any team would pay Albert #1 pick money. April Fool's was a week ago, buddy.

ummm.....which prospect are you refering to?

B.Albert

I realize he's a great prospect at OG and even did well for a couple of games at LT but to think of him as a #1 pick is ludicris. A team may reach alittle fine but he's not worthy of top ten let alone #1. He may potentially become a LT but because he played there a couple of games doesn't make him better than J.Long, he would be a project LT or an awesome LG. That's like saying we're gonna draft Dmac because he played QB in college and that's where he'll play in the NFL.

look. everyone on here has there preference on who theyd like to see wearing aqua. but that is no reason to discount other prospects as not elite.

oh ok.

This video clip is from NFL network from February 15th. At that time, Mike Mayock had Albert listed as his 20th overall player in the draft but said he was moving him into his top 10. They show several clips of Albert throwing people to the ground, as well as several clips of Jake Long getting beat by speed rushers.

I would not be upset about Albert as a Miami Dolphin.

So out of 500 to 600 plays against the defense he was able to find some of B.Albert throwing people to the ground and some QB pressures against J.Long, wow that changes everything!!!!! I guarantee you there's minimum twice as many plays with J.Long's opponent looking up to the skies before the end of the play.

Pace, Ogden, Thomas all have given up some sacks and lots of pressures that doesn't detract from them being great. No one can expect J.Long to be perfect but he does show the signs of being a great LT. I believe B.Albert will be a great OG in the NFL but I could show a dozen great plays of people you'd never heard of to slant information to support my claims.

I'd be one the happiest fans on the planet if we could land B.Albert but at #1 we'd be the dumbest franchise around. You could convince me M.Ryan is #1 material before B.Albert and that's really pushing it. Why not take a stud CB at #1 then, we'd love to have one but that would be reaching so what makes B.Albert any different.
