"The Eternal Optimists' Inn"

I’m not, I just don’t like reading through the same crap thread after thread after thread, it just litters the forum. People just like to start their own threads on the same topics for the attention.
I don’t start threads often at all, but when I do, I like to think I have an original thought.
Everybody who starts a thread or responds to a thread is looking for attention otherwise no one would post at all.

Show of hands who thinks tuas play down the stretch run of the season (the money time as I like to call it) has ever been good enough even when he has been healthy?

I’m a flat out hard no it has been closer to replace me level than solid.
Tua played damn good last December, things seemed to go sideways when Tyreek dropped a TD right in his hands on Dec 31st against Baltimore which I think put us in the lead of that game.

He wasn't good in the Buffalo game at the end of the year either, I think the primetime games are where Tua really falters for whatever reason. Lamar on the other hand has a crazy good primetime record. That's something Tua will have to overcome, and not get hurt, of course.

How many times has our QB gone down this season? I've actually lost count. Last game we were on our way to winning, with a good game plan. Then our 3rd string QB got hurt. And we still had a chance at the end.

There are quite a few stories of teams losing their starter and persevering with their backup QB, but with 3rd and 4th QBs? Few if there are any.

Point being, fans are looking for all kind of scape goats when the situation due to injury at QB makes it pretty dumb to make snap judgments based on w/l at this stage.
Your point about the QBs going down in regard to McD getting somewhat of a pass is valid. But he doesn't get a pass for his consistently bad clock management, offensive game planning based on his QB limitations, use of timeouts, 4th down play-calling, excessive pre-snap penalties, holding penalties, etc.

Not good enough in my eyes either. Feels like the elephant in the room around here.

So later in the season I felt Tua and the offense's decline came when defenses began to expose McD and his scheme. Which of course was all tailored to build on Tua's strengths while hiding his weaknesses. It worked brilliantly for a while and imo that was the absolute ceiling for Tua. All the stats accumulated then had everyone sold and majority wanted him extended asap! Which unfortunately did lead to his extension.

Some of us remained skeptical of the success the offense was having and wondered if it was truly sustainable.
Towards the end of last season it all became more clear. Defenses were becoming more physical with the receivers at the los and congesting the favored throwing lanes by Tua.
As soon as the timing was off with the receivers there was no longer that quick trigger "fire" by Tua. He had to sit back another second or two and work through progressions, which actually required him to process the field/defense. Even when he had decent protection to scan the field further it usually didn't end well for him. I've always been skeptical of his mental game and without the immediate target and release to one of the fastest receivers (creating that space), he was underwhelming and appeared unable to extend the play when needed.

How was the offense with Tua, starting from the Tennessee game last season?

Dolphins vs Titans 2023:

Tua- 20/33...240 yards...0 TD/0 INT

Dolphins offense Score 27...Defense allows 28 points.

Got to put this more on Defense, then Tua and offense

Dolphins vs Jets 2023:

Tua- 21/24...224 yards...1 TD/0 INT

Dolphins offense score 30...Dolphjns Defense allows 0 points

This shows me if Offense still doing job, and Defense also does...Miami win

Dolphins vs Cowboys 2023:

Tua- 24/37...293 yards...1 TD/0 INT

Dolphins offense scores 22 points... Dolphins Defense allows 20 points

Miami Defense allowed 20, but luckily Miami offense scores 22

Dolphins vs Ravens 2023 (Injuries through most of Offense):

Tua- 22/38...237 yards...2 TDs/1 INT

Dolphins offense scores 19 points...
Dolphins Defense allows 56 points

This Tells me w/ mediocre O-line, Tua and offense can still get it somewhat done with line, but once injury hit WR and RB top talent, offense is in trouble, if Defense does not respond, Miami is deeply in trouble

Dolphins vs Bills Jan 2024 (Still huge injuries to Offense)

Tua 17/24...173 yards...1 TD/2 INTs

Dolphins Offense scores 14 points...
Dolphins Defense allows 21 points

Miami still with huge injuries to the Offense around receiver & RB, still manage to score 14, but the Defense again can not pick up their weight

Dolphins vs Chiefs Jan 2024 playoffs (All top receivers and Top RBs playing hurt in sub zero temp):

Tua- 20/39...199...1 TD/1 INT

Dolphins Offense score 7 points...
Dolphins Defense allows 26 points

This Tells me that injured quality players throughout a team playing in extreme cold weather against the eventual SB winning team is too much for any team

Dolphins vs Jaguars Sept 2024:

Tua 23/37...338 yards...1 TD/0 INT

Dolphins offense score 20...Dolphins Defense allow 17 points

This Tells me that the rusty Offense that saw little Tua in preseason can still score, and though the defense still did not have a good game, but was enough.

Dolphins vs Bills Sept 2024

Tua 17/25...145 yards...1 TD/3 INTs

Miami Offense scored 10 points
Miami defense allowed 31 points

This Tells me that though Tua was having a bad game with 3 INTs (2 were not his fault), he was still moving the ball better the Allen, and though Miami in 3rd was down 31-7, Miami with Tua was about to score another TD before Tua took himself out. It also tells me that with Tua Miami has a shot to win games, without, they are in trouble.

Tay, I am always hopeful, but you are an "Eternal Optimist" IMO. You saw those games much differently than I did, but I am not saying you are wrong, just that we have differing opinions on what we have witnessed the last 11 games now. I saw a poor offense when going up against good teams. I saw a defense that played hard and kept us close, but seemed to lose hope in the 2nd half on MANY occasions. Coincidentally, this is while the offense has been averaging less than 13.2 pts per game going back 11 GAMES STRAIGHT now! I am not a believer in this regime, or in Double-Hoops MickeyD. Just IMHO.

No pass agreed, but i do think his offensive game plans improved after 1 or 2 games without Tua. Penalties and wasted timeouts still are a problem, no doubt.

Lets put it to rest on MickeyD. I see zero growth in him as a HC. I will not list the obvious we all have seen with our own eyes. Rather, I will go all the way back to the last 4 games last season to present (10 games total including the playoff loss to the Chiefs) to take an overall look at our offensive production:

132 pts. scored on offense for an average of 13.2 pts./game

3-7 W-L record

Now what I am really interested to see is what the latest "excuses", or "be patient", or "he is developing" or "he will grow into the job", or "if Tua was playing" "or my ST Coach deserves to be Asst. HC"...I don't care, heard them all many times...Who on this blog has confidence in Mickey D moving forward and why?

Nobody has to justify their optimism to you.

Period.

Tua will help, but the HC's gametime decisions will never improve. MickeyD can hire the 2nd coming of Jesus @ QB, but that will not make us a "good" team. We are not a "good" team, at least based on what I have witnessed for a long time now...
Jesus would get crucified behind this line...and not make it back in 3 days.

Not kidding at all when I say this.

Mamy owners would have fired the GM for how bad our backup QB play has been and how bad the oline has continued to be. Or they would fire him tomorrow morning.

Ross needs to get off his yacht and fire him already. Show a sign of good faith to the fans that he's serious about building a legitimate football team.

What Grier has done this year is so obviously bad and unexcusable, even someone as old and ignorant as Ross should be able to see this.
I have been to games and sat close to the owners box where Ross watches the games. We were getting hammered and he was livid. You could see how pissed he was! There was almost smoke coming out of his ears! But, then Grier keeps his job, again! Chris Grier is really great at one thing. Bullshitting Steve Ross, he is an absolute Grandmaster!! He should have been fired long ago!

It's hard to tell.
Who is that guy George MacDonald has by the head?
He doesn't look like an "Eagle"
That’s the artist’s dramatic rendition of the plight of the average drooling, mentally challenged Jets fan living in his mother’s basement set against the backdrop of 1830’s transcendentalism.
