Let's face it, whoever we hire now is gonna look like a poor consolation prize and fans will be dubious of everything he does. No boost (and likely further deterioration) of ticket-sales, merchandise, and continued piling on of media.

There's just that much more that a new GM and the team has to overcome because of the bad blood and horrible PR of this whole off-season (and last season's scandals).

Keeping Phailbin was a horrible idea, and the Dawn Aponte has to be the reason why. It seems obvious that her power-partnership with Philbin was about her self-preservation and career advancement than what was good for the Miami Dolphins and DolFans.

I've held off for weeks now from venting this, and have tried to rationalize in my mind how things will be alright. Unfortunately the damage is done in terms of bad publicity that would take 2 years of great off-seasons to repair. The new guy is gonna have to have like a 2000 slugging percentage over the next 2 years. If he's not hitting home runs and getting this 8-8 team to 10-6 or better, Sun Life will be a mausoleum come mid-October.

You could say that anyone would but I think the fan-base would've given some other guys more rope based on a respected resume. Being snubbed like this and having all the media rub our noses in it is just so incredibly disheartening that the odds of failure seem so much greater for our new guy, especially tethered to a coach who 'we-the-fanbase' have pretty much turned on at this point.

I honestly don't think the perception of this team will change unless they somehow manage to go deep in the playoffs or if Ross rolls out the brinks truck and gives full control to an establish former HC or GM like Jon Gruden or an equivalent

Not sure what the point of this thread is. Youre whole thread is based on an assumption of the ENTIRE fanbase...

I have to agree on the PR thing, somehow they managed to get fans almost back to Ireland hate levels emotionally.

Instead of 'Fireland', it will be 'Fire-bin' by next October (unless we're winning, of course :) ).

I'll tell ya one thing: WQAM guys are heaping scorn on the Ross/Dolphins a ton more than I ever do.

who cares? if he allows fan perception to change him he wasn't going to succeed anyway.

So without even knowing who our new GM will be you declare a failure and call the new guy a consolidation prize? Since you were 'silent' for the last two weeks who was your pick? What would have been your grand slam? Of course now it easy to pick one who is out of the running.

The ironic part is that every one of the candidates have or had very little GM experience and they were new and up and coming GMs. There is and was no telling which of these candidates are truly a future GM. It is very much like promoting a Coordinator or assistant to his first HC gig. No telling what you are going to get.

I have a great suggestion for you. Since your Dolphins fan life is already so miserable (before electing a GM, free agency and the draft) just quit now. It saves you from watching the Dolphins in an empty stadium. I am sure Aurora has many things to offer on a Sunday afternoon.

Ironically, were a I Bear fan I'd be in the same boat, am I right? 8-8.

Like I said, I was kinda hoping to draw some counter-point to my argument.

I'm also willing to say that I probably jumped the gun here, and the right name could totally change the dialog. It's just hard to see 'Brian Gaine' as being that name as he will probably be perceived as 'Ireland-lite' until he proved himself.

I also would like to see something positive about Aponte. It seems like she's being vilified to a point of absurdity here and it's hard to me to believe she's the 'Anti-Christ' she's being made out to be. Sexism is for micro-peen'd nimrods and if that's driving the dialog then that's just sickening. If there's more clear-cut reasons to doubt her, I would like to be educated as to what those are.

Enough is enough. If your making your mind up already on potential GMs before they even get hired than your a moron.

Woe is me is right, lets cry now because so and so isn't getting enough respect. Only one thing earns you respect, winning.

Let's give whoever is hired the proper respect. Mike Pettine wasnt Cleveland first choice to be head coach....that won't have any impact on his success or failure.

JUST WAIT.

If the GM can draft players who will actually see the field next year I'd think the perception would change quick. The only problem with that is we'd have to wait until the season began for that to take place.
