... was, incredibly, also a Dolphins home game on Monday Night Football.
November 26, 1984.
The Jets apparently jumped out to a first quarter lead on a Ken O'Brien pass to Freeman McNeill. Marino then struck back with a touchdown pass to Mark Clayton. When the Jets responded with a field goal, Marino threw another touchdown before halftime, this one to Bruce Hardy.
In the second half Marino threw two more touchdowns (no surprise there, this was 1984, after all), while the Jets could only add a rushing touchdown, making the final score 28-17.
Of course, there are a lot of story lines and bits of incidental garbage floating around about this game (Crowder vs. Ryan... sigh), but although a lot has been made of the fact that Mark Sanchez and Chad Henne are starting their first games against the Dolphins and Jets, respectively, I hadn't heard that the first game between Dan Marino and Ken O'Brien as starting quarterbacks had been on Monday night, and (best of all) had been a Dolphins victory.
Let's turn this bizarre stat into a streak, huh? After all, that season the Jets ended up going 7-9, while the Dolphins made the Super Bowl. And at the end of the day, one starting quarterback got elected to the HOF, while the other, uh, didn't.
