NFL owners reportedly not happy over rising costs amid record-setting revenue

The National Football League made $23 billion in revenue across the 2024 season, representing another record-setting year for the league. However, with the salary cap increasing and the salaries for the highest-paid NFL players following suit, it appears NFL owners aren’t happy with how much they have to spend now.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk highlighted made by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell this past week regarding the current Collective Bargaining Agreement and talks for a new CBA. While the current CBA doesn’t expire until 2030, it appears NFL owners have expressed frustration to Goodell regarding how much money they now have to spend on their teams.

Under the current CBA, NFL players receive 48 percent of the league’s revenue. That would be just over $11 billion from last year’s revenue, with that money distributed across players across 53-man rosters for all 32 NFL teams.

Goodell also stated that owners want to revisit the salary cap system itself, examining how it’s working and whether or not there are ways to slow down the rising salaries for players. The commissioner’s comments certainly suggest his bosses, the team owners, aren’t pleased with the share of revenue players receive.

This is the key line. The owners want an even bigger slice of the money, even though they're all extremely rich. Rich bastard narcissists... almost every one.

It's a level of greed that is just pathological. These are some of the richest men in the World, all of whom have seen their team's values increase by a huge percentage over the years... all of whom are solidly in the black, but they want even more.

It's a sickness, a moral failing of immense magnitude.

Wait, so 32 guys who are getting 52% of the league revenue (over 11 billion dollars) are unhappy that the other 48% is shared between 1,696 guys who actually provide the entertainment to the fans?

The highest paid player in the league is making $60M per year, I wonder what the lowest owners profit is? I bet it’s a damn sight more the $60M.

Rich people’s greed has no limit.

Stop paying them so much, and stop charging the fans so much to come to games. It’s all greed.

The world is filled with it. I went to an amusement park two weeks ago, and they charged me and my wife $31 for 2 drinks. That was with the 10% season pass discount. Ridiculous.

Maybe we should all just stop going to stuff that rapes our wallets, and force them to choose between lower prices and unemployment.

Our athletes and these owners are whining about their money while our military, police, firefighters, and correctional officers put their life on the line everyday for crumbs.

Pitiful.

I was going to write something about the insane greed of the owners. It's a huge pie to slice up if all sides don't get crazy. Maybe some owners need to sell.

Yeah, I just don't get the extreme overcharging for food, drinks and parking. It's a once every few seasons for me to be able to afford to take my family.

Maybe the owners should examine why a middle class family of 4 can’t afford to go to a game.
Why can’t they? I mean, they can’t get 1st row 50yr line, but it’s not that expensive for seats higher up. I haven’t been to an NFL game in two seasons, but I went to the 49ers @ Vikings Monday night game and spent $50 on my ticket. Yes, food and beer is expensive, but (and even though this was a Monday night game) I could have taken my wife and 2 of my kids, got them a coke and popcorn each, for about $250. Hell, I spent over $200 just taking my family to the movies a few weekends back. (Took wife and all 4 of my kids)

All owners make the same amount. (Excluding what they sell in concessions and parking at their home stadium)
