Everytime #6 comes onto the field, before the huddle, everyone is thinking wildcat! The defense adjusts, putting in more run personel and are dropping their safety into the box.
What no one is talking about is when White breaks the huddle, he goes into a shotgun, or even takes it from underneath the center as a pure drop back passer.
Passing from this traditional formation will catch the defense off guard at first, but it will help in pulling that safety back.
Don't be suprised if White gets 10-20 non Wildcat throwing attempts over the season.. I think they'll want him to make some quick 3 step drops to Ginn on Bubbles, and drags, and Turner could be getting some fades and slants.

While his wildcat presence will be felt, I think we will get to see some base offense stuff with White in at Qb too..

I have thought of this too, but I feel they will use rollouts a lot with Pat to minimize the effects of his height and to threaten him to run with the ball. Some here have said that if every time Pat comes on the field = Wildcat then you lose a lot of the effectiveness, some Wildcat power comes from being run from the base offense and not allowing your opponent to substitute. But if Pat comes on and its base or spread offense sometimes, not Wildcat, then the defense is more challenged. Fundamentally remember White is a rookie QB, and even great QBs like Peyton Manning looked awful at times as QBs their rookie year. I don't know that we can afford to give White the repetitions Flacco and Ryan got before and during the season that helped them to year one success.

Well he definitely will not get the repetitions that Flacco or Ryan got because they were starters early on. But I think they are going to try and put him in late in a blowout game in a hurry up offense. We ran the hurry up very well last year and I believe we will run it even more this year. But with White running the hurry up, we will be able to throw in a few wildcat plays as well as have him take some snaps from under center. Its the best of both worlds, and the defense will not be able to sub alternate players in and out when they see the WildPat unveiled. All in all i cant wait to see how we utilize this kind of weapon that we picked up this year.

I honest don't think the Dolphins have a complete idea of what they are going to do with Pat, which is really great. If they aren't entirely sure what they are going to do, imagine how confused the other teams will be. My only hope is that they can properly execute whatever they come up with for him and that they don't try to do to much and his versatility becomes a liability.

I don't see White being used that much in the wildcat...but I do see him being used alot in the spread.

Exactly. Most think they're the same thing, and I think White will run some WC, but I've been saying that we'll likely use him the way the Chiefs used Thigpen last season. Also, I've made mention that White will be more of a threat as a WR than Pennington out of the WC. I know he won't be a great WR, but his athleticism should keep defenses more honest.

I just wanna see him play no matter what formation, but I agree with ADAvieDolphin

I think long term if White AND Chad Henne both pan out we may see a Chris Leak/Tim Tebow kind of system where you mix and match QBs to keep the opponent off balance. Another thought is that besides the Wildcat/WildPat/spread/Parkay offense White was brought in to compete with Chad H and raise his play level just like BP and TS have done at just about every position.

I see White taking Ricky's spot running right to left with Ginn blazing downfield on that side and Fasano an underneath option. Oh wait, Ronnie kept the ball & went the other way, oops, LOL.

I'd like to see White on special teams behind our line on punts. Do it enough to give people something to think about. Direct snap? Maybe. Decoy? Perhaps. Major distraction? Absolutely.

thats a very interesting thought...
but, as that decoy, isn't he a liability in punt protection?
that guy ususally gets the last chip block, you want a QB to do it?

I agree with others that the spread/option will be in use as well. Our football team is gonna be really exciting. I'd love to work with Dan Henning.

I think with White's experience running the ball and getting tackled he should be able to chip a guy (if one is coming through) who's probably a flyer type.

You're right, though, I don't want to see him get clobbered, but some people want to see him returning kicks. That, or lining Pennington up at WR in the Wildcat, seems to me much more dangerous.

I saw an interview of Pennington where they asked him about it. He lines up more than 5 yards off scrimmage so that he can't legally be hit and is in a position to be lateraled to (see: Cobbs TD).

Man, I was hoping someone was crazy enough to bring up the wishbone. How nuts would that be to have Penny under center, Pat just behind him, and then Ronnie and Ricky standing side by side.
Note:Before everyone goes bashing me, I fully understand that the wishbone is an option based formation a would probably get somebody killed...this is meant to be humorous.

Actually, I would bet that they will run some triple option.

The link is to Coach Rodriguez discussing his use of the spread at WVU and they show an example of it.
