I've seen numerous post wondering who our Quarterback of the future is and when would we implant them into the starting kineup and it has me wondering, Did we miss the 2008 season? Did we not see Chad Pennington have the best Dolphins' season in over a decade? Why are we so eager to move past Mr. Pennington? I find myself asking these questions and to me it just doesn't add up. Chad finished the 2008 season with a 97.4 Quarterback Rating throwing for 3,653 yars and 19 TD passes. I understand that his arm has limitations but are you ready to annoit Chad Henne or Pat White as better football plars or better Quarterback's than Chad Pennington? I sure as hell am not. Henne and White both have better arms than Chad Pennington but Penny's football IQ makes him the better player. The 2008 NFL Comeback player of the Year who finished 2nd in the league's MVP voting finds himself with something to prove yet again. The final two games of the season sold me on Chad Pennington more than anything. We go to Kansas City and beat them in the coldest game the Dolphins have ever played in and than of course Week 17 when Chad got his revenge in New York and beat his former team, the New York Jets for the division title. One again Chad was screwed out of his due because the big story with that game was Brett Favre.

I think Chad Pennington is our teams' Quarterback andf I think it is his for the long haul. If Chad Henne sits on the bench for 2 or 3 more years than that indicates that Chad Pennington is playing at a high level. Pat White will see the field more than Henne in 2009 and that's because he will be explosive in the spread and "wild-cat" offense. i know Coach Sparano said Pat will only be a Quarterback but what is he suppossed to say, " Hey NFL be ready for Pat White in the wild-cat"? In poker you never want to show you're hand and the same thing relates here.

Chad Pennington is the Quarterback, the best player on this team, and the leader of the franchise. Without Chad Pennington last year we are a 5-11 football team with John Beck as our starter. Be careful for what you wish for because Jets' fans wished Chad away and he became a Dolphin and took their division. I could see the Bills needing a Quarterback after this season.. be very careful what you wish for

Because......
-He's old
-He's injury prone(I know he was healthy last year but that's not a normal thing for him)
-His arm puts limitations on what you can do as an offense
-People really like Henne(I'm not even sure why to be honest)

I actually agree with a lot of what you said though and I'm personally undecided on what I'd like to see happen. It would be nice to see a QB who can make all the throws and hit on the deep ball when it's open but there really is NO guarantee that Henne or White will be worth a you know what as an nfl QB.

Could not agree more myself, Penny is the QB until someone beats him out for the job...... simple as that.

Miami's "MVP" was that last place schedule......and the Wildcat...

You're going to see why Pennington isn't the QB of the future in about the first 7 weeks of the season.....you're not going to have to wait until the first round of the playoffs again to see....lol

Chad Pennington is one of those QB's that's good enough to keep you mediocre..(at least when he's healthy...which is a rarity in itself)...but will get absolutely eat up against an upper echelon defense....

...just like Jay Fiedler...

You are significantly undervaluing the Grove acquisition. If the rookie CBs step up, we will open up 2-0. We are going to run for 150 yards against the Falcons and the Colts. Yes, I do believe that Grove transforms our line into a brutal, crushing, demoralizing, defensive line eating machine. Time will tell, but that is my expectation. If Pennington has that kind of running game, he will shread secondaries.

While I've always thought that Pennington limit us in some ways, I can't underestimate his smarts in this game, his calm, and his decision making.. That actually sets him apart from a lot of QB's, and the reason we beat Denver, SD, NE, Jets, Buf, who all had good QB's and Good D's...Baltimore had an elite D no doubt about it, but our OL in that game was horrible.. I've always say it and I"ll say it again, the trenches is where the game is won.. in the playoffs last year we lost in the trenches, and chad did make some mistakes, I agree, but for the most part he's a solid QB.. Would I like to see C. Henne's arn on Chad P..of course, with his football mind and a arm to match, he'd be extremely dangerous... If it's the future the only thing I can really hope for, is Chad Henne becoming football smart learning from Chad P., Henne needs to learn to see the football field like Penny.. once he acquires that, then I don't mind him taking over.. the question is, has he mastered that.. He has all off season, TC and the PS to learn.. He won't really let us know until it's a real game .. But I think sitting has really help Aaron Rogers, his first year last year wasn't as bad I think in part because he had plenty of time to watch Farve and really learn the O, GB runs.. that's a big help in helping a young QB come in and play like a vet. If Henne sits this year and next it wouldn't bother me.. Only if Chad P. gets hurt or we're way ahead is the only time I want to see Henne this year. I think the teams we're playing this year, Chad P. gives us the best chance to win..plus it gives Henne and White a chance to see how to play elite teams...watch what they do against us and see the holes in their D without the pressure of being on the field.. this year will be the best year in value for our young QB's in terms of learning.. Great D's for them to absorb..

I think the biggest beneficiary of Pennington being the starter in 2009 (besides the Dolphins as a whole) is Pat White. Whether he becomes a starting QB in the NFL or not, he would be a much more efficient passer whenever he has the ball in his hands if he could learn under Pennington for a year first. If Henne becomes the starter this season and plays lights out, good for him--and us, but I don't see CH being able to mentor anyone at this stage like Pennington could.

Fasano/Turner could become quite the two headed giant as receivers this year, and if the interior line play improves we should have a nice time of possession advantage to help out our D while the rookies find their footing. We don't need to throw the ball 80 yards through the air to win the SB this year, we just have to improve the supporting cast around Pennington.

24/35 295 yards 1 TD 1 INT
25/38 252 yards 1 TD 4 INT

Pennys Line Score against 'Elite' Defense. Facing PITT, SD w/ Merriman back, IND w/ Bob Sanders back, TENN, NE w/ their scheming on D, Carolina and HOU which MIA can't beat. This season isn't going to be as rosy as you all think. It will be a hard tough road to travel week in and week out. Having ROOKIES all over the secondary and a CFL LB doesn't equal 11 wins.

We are still a team rebuilding for the future. Teams like PITT and TEN and IND have already been through the process MIA is now engaged in.

Favre's last year in GB, didn't they goto the NFC champ? And what did Rogers do his first year w/ the same offense last year?

Compare Rogers first year after sitting all those season's learning compared to Flacco and Ryan.

I hope MIA can equal last years success. But I understand the league for what it is. Dynasties aren't built after 1 year and 2 drafts. And facing the 'Elite' qb's in PIT, IND, NE, SD and NO will show why having high hopes on a revamped secondary are futile. Those rookies in the secondary will learn under fire from some of the best in league.

I love to see Pennington stay healthy and have a great 09 season. But if he does not? It's time to look at a young QB like Henne. June 26th he turns 33 years old. Chad will be a free agent at then end of the 09 season and then be 34 year's old at the start of the 2010 season. Do the math people, unless you can give him a drink from the fountain of youth! How many more seasons can you count on him?

outlaw,

every player has limitations. Chad Henne isn't half the player as Chad Pennington. It's a proven fact. I also disagree that being 32 makes you old...He is younger than Peyton Manning and the same age as Tom Brady. oh yeah nevermind they suck because they are old...

TedSlim,

Does Chad Pennington make the NFL Schedule? We were 1-15 in 2007 for crying out loud.

What Chad Pennington did last year was as impressive to me as anything the Dolphins have done since 1982

im actually in the minority that thinks we should even start Henne now...

i know and appreciate the great things Penny does for this offense, but I truly feel he does limit us and our potential as an offense would be much greater with Henne... it doesn't mean you put in Henne its instantly better, but there is a much higher ceiling for this offense with Henne behind center than with Penny...

At the start of the 2009 season he is 33 and at the start of the 2010 season he will be 34.

that's what makes "competition" such a great thing. You want Pennington's job? Take it.
If you can't beat him out, your riding the pine for another season. It's not his job to lose... it's theirs to win.

Chad Pennington is the QB because he has the football.

Even if Henne beats out Pennington the coaches wont put him in they are old school. They think expirience is the way to go they are in some ways correct some of the best QB sat for a while..... Some didnt we just have to wait and see . But me personally I saw Henne in the pre season he was looking good when he had the ball and the arm cant compare to pennington's....
