The GOOD coaching factor.

I posted this in another post and thought I'd get thoughts.

People aren't factoring in everything, it seems. We have made some big improvements on defense and got a great RB. Factor in MUCH MUCH better coaching and there is no reason to believe this team can't go 10-6. If you ask me, that is very realistic. This team, minus the new additions made, would go 8-8 under the new coaching staff. So you have to think the upgrades AND DRAFT PICKS would at least be worth another two wins.

With Bates from week 1 last years team may have gone 8-8. When you go over the seaon everybody acted like we were waaaaaaayyyyyyyyy worse than we actually were. We only got blown out once and could have won any of the last 8 games (starting vs Arizona) had we got a couple of breaks. One thing that really cracks me up is when rival fans talk about how much better there team is than yours and how they're going to blow out your team and they end up winning by 7 or 10 and the rival fan still thinks it was a butt whipping. There is a thinner line between the good and the bad teams in this leauge than there is between the good and the great teams.

No coach no matter how great can turn ****e into gold. As long as we have a coach that can take our players and make them play to the best of there ability then I am happy. For our current o-line I think thats 8-8. I hope upon hope that the coaching can prove me wrong

4-12 to 11-5?

That would be one of the biggest turn arounds in NFL history!

I think 8-8 or 9-7 is the best we can realistically hope for...

St. Louis, San Diego, Dallas.....they all had big turn arounds in year. And two of them won the super bowl!

We pretty much all our games last year by less then 10 points! We could've won agains Cincy, Arizona, Seatle, and Buffalo once. That makes last years team 8-8 with bad coaching, no RB, and a very young O-line.

I know that is a would'a should'a could'a thing, but really, we had some close games last year that should've or could've been won.

There is no question that we have upgraded some of our coaching staff.

I believe that Saban will prove to be an excellent coach

However, we should keep in mind that Saban is not a proven NFL coach.

Further, many more college coaches have failed in moving to the NFL than have succeeded.

He might not be a proven NFL coach but i heard a quote somewhere and it went along the lines as Saban is an NFL coach who suceeded in the college levels. Saban works 16 hour days and he is no Steve Spurrier. Hard Work pays off and the Miami Dolphins will win the Super Bowl next year.

Wouldn't that shock the world. But I wouldn't go that far.

I am optimistic also. If we can keep Gus healthy we can win 60% of the games he plays. If he goes down to injury though, Brock will have his hands full. Who knows though maybe Brock will lead us to the SB. Better chance of that right now than it was that Brady was gonna do it for the Pats two days after he was drafted.

There are a couple factors that are going to go into our record next year.

1. The biggest factor is how fast everybody picks up the offense.
Last year Feeley came into a run happy offense and had trouble learning the few passing plays that we did have. I dont know if it was the system or if it was the plays.
2. How well Feeley plays.
Even thought most people here are all high and mighty on Feeley because he made a few good passes last year, being a realist I must see him play well to grade him well. I see that he has made some good passes and showed some potential but so did Ryan Leaf so that point is mute. He has this year to show if he can do it or not, hopefully he does come out playing great football and making smart decisions but I still have my reserves about him.

3. Is Houck the miracle worker he is made out to be.
After seeing what he did with the SD last year you would think this man is probably one of the best in the business. After watching our line last year he is going to have his work cut out for him. The line did show improvement at the end of last year showing some promise so I think this can be done.

I look for us to go maybe 8-8 or 9-7. I personally think that we are going to be mediocre next year but in 2 years I look for us to be a NFL powerhouse. I cant wait.

Your right and it remains to be seen about his potential at this level. But take into consideration the NFL coaching talent he has surrounded himself with, the way he handled himself during this draft and his approach to the season. I think he is going to not only suceed but excel at this level. He is not your typical "spurrier" type coach. He is the consumate professional. I can't wait for the season to start. I don't want to predict how many games we will win, but I think our team will be prepared for each and every one.

The thing that most people do not understand is that Houck just has to be decent for Miami's offensive line to improve. Miami's line is full of young talent. Most of them are players that have first three round grades in the last 3 years. Not saying his work is not cut out for him. Just saying that a lot of linemen last year looked much worse then they actually are.

Also the fact that if Brown is just an average NFL runningback next year then that will help the line out a lot. There were many plays that Morris and Minor and the practice squad bunch just couldn't make because they are just not good enough to be starting NFL runningbacks

You can look at 2004 in a different light also. We didn't defeat a single decent team when it wasn't a very favorable scheduling scenario. Two of the wins were against the teams who drafted around us, pathetic San Francisco and Cleveland. We got St. Louis in one of the most dreaded scheduling disadvantages possible, a road game versus a non-division foe after hosting and winning a Monday Night game. I wasn't posting here at the time but on another Dolphin forum I've emphasized for years how dramatically that road non-division following Monday Night can alter performance. Also, we got New England at home on Monday Night in a natural save-face pride game on national TV late in the season.

We still have below average personnel, IMO. When the season wins over/unders come out, propably within a week, our number will be in the 6 to 6 1/2 range. For good reason.

It was mentioned over the week end by one of the pundits on ESPN, that Saban was an NFL coach that took his NFL philosophy to the college ranks. Not a college coach taking his college philosophy to the NFL.

They also said he WILL succeed.

You should reevaluate our talent. To suggest Miami will only win 6 games is crazy. Our line will imrove quite a bit. I think out biggest question is at QB. If Gus or Feeley play decent, this is a 10 win team. Last year we were about an 8 win team except for some boneheaded plays at the QB position.
