From those who saw the game (or at least, what the NFL Network covered), we know that Jacksonville left in their starters for the majority of the first half. Leftwich stayed in up until there was four minutes left left in the 2nd quarter. Two key starters (three if you include McKinney) in Marty Booker and Jason Taylor did not suit up. Culpepper threw two passes, though secretly, I wanted him to go deep to Chambers. Chambers did not even catch a pass.
With that, here's my take on the game:
The Good
Harrington looked pretty decent. He put a little pepper on the TD pass to McMichael. In fact, statistically, all of Miami's backups did relatively well. There were no interceptions thrown, which is always a good thing. Cleo Lemon completed 11 of 15 passes thrown.
Miami had 25 first downs compared to 15 for the Jags. They converted ten of nineteen on 3rd downs. The Jags converted 40%. The Dolphins were 2 out of 3 on 4th down.
Looked as though Miami was trying out a bunch of their receiving and quarterbacking corps. Many passes were thrown and caught.
Miami's D held the Jags to a palsy 2.8 yards per rush.
The Bad
Miami allowed 5 sacks during the game. Is this a signal that they aren't quite in unison? Who knows, it's only preseason.
Who is going to be Miami's backup RB??? KJ Harris put up decent numbers. RB had 8 rushes for less than 30 yards. Morris, the popular backup amongst many here, looks HUGE, but had merely six yards on four rushes.
The Ugly
The coverage. Three passes were completed for 50 yards or more for touchdowns. Two were DEEP! WTF??? And the one to Drew was utterly dispicable. Where is the depth? Miami did damn good against the run, but where is the pass defense on those bombs? I know, it is only preseason, but there is definitely an issue with Miami's deep cover unit....mainly the safeties.
