From those who saw the game (or at least, what the NFL Network covered), we know that Jacksonville left in their starters for the majority of the first half. Leftwich stayed in up until there was four minutes left left in the 2nd quarter. Two key starters (three if you include McKinney) in Marty Booker and Jason Taylor did not suit up. Culpepper threw two passes, though secretly, I wanted him to go deep to Chambers. Chambers did not even catch a pass.

With that, here's my take on the game:

The Good

Harrington looked pretty decent. He put a little pepper on the TD pass to McMichael. In fact, statistically, all of Miami's backups did relatively well. There were no interceptions thrown, which is always a good thing. Cleo Lemon completed 11 of 15 passes thrown.

Miami had 25 first downs compared to 15 for the Jags. They converted ten of nineteen on 3rd downs. The Jags converted 40%. The Dolphins were 2 out of 3 on 4th down.

Looked as though Miami was trying out a bunch of their receiving and quarterbacking corps. Many passes were thrown and caught.

Miami's D held the Jags to a palsy 2.8 yards per rush.

The Bad

Miami allowed 5 sacks during the game. Is this a signal that they aren't quite in unison? Who knows, it's only preseason.

Who is going to be Miami's backup RB??? KJ Harris put up decent numbers. RB had 8 rushes for less than 30 yards. Morris, the popular backup amongst many here, looks HUGE, but had merely six yards on four rushes.

The Ugly

The coverage. Three passes were completed for 50 yards or more for touchdowns. Two were DEEP! WTF??? And the one to Drew was utterly dispicable. Where is the depth? Miami did damn good against the run, but where is the pass defense on those bombs? I know, it is only preseason, but there is definitely an issue with Miami's deep cover unit....mainly the safeties.

luckily its only preseason. all teams are just trying to figure out who goes where. on the bright side, Olindo Mare hit a 52 yarder.

That's because they were throwing the ball like crazy on us.

Actuallyy it was 4 Td's over 50 yards.
Our Pass D needs to step up and show me something vs TB next week.

i think harrington was eating fried chicken on the sideline because he couldnt hold on to the ball.

Sorry about that. Yeah, I thought the "other long one" was a 49 yarder. Four LONG passes 62, 50, 51, and 55. Not encouraging.

Agreed on the rushing. Although, just to point it out, the Jags leading rusher was Drew with 16 yards on four carries. One of those carries was 13 yards. Other than than, their rushing was unspectacular although, yeah, they were utilizing the passing game big-time.

thanks for the summary, for our first pre season game it seems we have some strong points and some things to work on,,,,no injuries is the biggest plus, we'll be fine

IT WAS JUST A PRESEASON GAME!!!

it doesnt mean nothing!

Kyle Orton was lightening it up durring last years preseason

it's true that this is only the pre-season, but some intellectual break-downs are in order.

but no freak-outs though, and I think this thread is good.

I'm sure Saban has taken notice of the situations and will take care of it.
We'll find out come next practice.

I'm not all that worried about our secondary's deep coverage mostly because last year in the 1st preseason game it was the same story. The Bears completed all kinds of passes on our defense and we all were very worried after that game. But slowly but surely Saban corrected the problem fixing the blown coverages and our secondary didn't quite end up being the sive we thought it was going to be.

nice job overall on your recpap a few things missing here or there but nice job overall

i cant stand seeing the highlights of a loss it depresses me my week will be bad as it is knowing the fins lost

Newbies are are good to just like pre-season it's a learning experience. Welcome Newbies!

normal stuff when you are trying things and not game planning coverages, also alot of talented new guys need alittle time to learn, we just need them to be great about midway through the regular season when we make our run

The key thing that noone is posting is that we play the Jags again in the regular season.Saban will show nothing! The Jags on the other hand probably showed saban too much from Byron.saban will key in on something Byron does that might help our DB's.Why show now when you can surprise when it counts!
