The High Five

That was awesome. I don't know if it was a planned thing. It appeared spontaneous.

The really cool part was our two guys leaving defenders in the rearview, in an almost comically playful manner.

In an interview Wilson credited a former teammate that started this on his old team. He said it was somewhat spontaneous and Grant just went with it.

Yes, Tyreek Hill did it (with Wilson) last season.

Also, the “night out” photo TD celebration was also brought by Wilson from KC.

Hate to be the downer here but I would really prefer our guys go on and score the TD before celebrating. It was cool but hopefully just a one time thing.

Funny story, in high school the kick returner for my school was a state 100 yard champ and faster than anyone on the field. He returned a kick off and blow by everyone else then decided to run the last 20 yards backwards waving at the guys trying to caught him.
You can guess what happened. He tripped and they recovered on the 5 yard line.

Score first then celebrate

Could a flag not have been thrown for taunting or premature celebration or something?

I’m surprised it wasn’t.

I think it could technically be a foul but it's not the kind of thing I think the NFL is interested in penalizing anymore. It's two teammates celebrating together, not necessarily trying to show anyone up, and it's not obscene in any way.

A couple of years ago? Yeah, they would have flagged that, probably.

Are they still penalizing for “pre-planned” celebrations or has that all been done away with?

I think they are now only penalizing:

1. Throwing a football into the stands is still technically a penalty. They really only penalize this if you whip it up there. If it's tossed up gently to a kid in the stands, they look the other way.

2. Obscene gestures. i.e. the Lynch crotch grab.

3. Using props. I think this still applies to the football.

4. Taunting.

5. If the players celebrate to the point that it delays the extra point attempt.

The 'group celebration' penalty was thankfully done away with a couple of years ago. It took years of people pointing out that Walter Payton would have been penalized every time he handed a football to a member of his offensive line so that they could spike it for the NFL to realize how stupid this provision was. It's a team sport, players should absolutely celebrate with their teammates.

Agree 100%. My point was finish the play first .

Celebrating before you score is not something I'd like to see going forward.

I'll give them a pass on this one :)
