First let me start out by saying that I am VERY happy that St. Nick had the insight to focus on the Defensive Tackle position in this draft and in the last. Championships are won in the trenches, and the importance of the big men in the middle cannot be overstated. So, here goes: In Manny & Rod Wright, Kevin Vickerson, and Fred Evans, we have quality young depth to groom for the future. Some folks on these forums cannot quite understand why so many have made DT a need for this team. Remember this: Keith Traylor is 38, and both he and Holliday are in the final years of their contracts. Zgonina is also long in the tooth, but is still a very effective pass-rushing DT (NOT a run-stopper). Holliday may re-sign, but I would be surprised by this. After this season, our D-line will face a shake up. I think Traylor is terrific when he is healthy. He is a 340 lb. beast, but he is getting near the end of his career. All of the above young studs are projects. They will need a few years to develop. Manny Wright is coming along nicely, but is still a project. Rod Wright is a complete mystery to me. If he recovers from his injury and is as good as advertised, we've gotten away with a steal. If we had not signed four DT's between last year and this year, we'd be faced with a dire situation at the end of this season. And mark this down: Saban was targeting Ngata in this draft. If he had had additional draft picks to play with, he would have traded up to grab him. I am almost SURE of it. He liked Bunkley, as well, but he Wanted Ngata. That being said, safety was still my pick in this draft from the very beginning. A fast, intimidating FS who roams the wastelands where receivers fear to tread is a HUGE part of a successful defense. Troy P. from the Stellers is a VITAL part of what they do back there. I believe that our defense is still missing a few important parts to be complete: A solid OLB, and a TRUE, Monstrous NT, ala Jamaal Williams, (340 lbs), Casey Hampton (325 lbs)...All of those young DT's are just that: DT's, not NT's. If we TRULY want to run a successful 3-4, then a replacement will be needed for Traylor. Thoughts...?? Do you agree? Oh, and what are the chances that Seau returns for one more season? Is this a fantasy, or something that you TRULY believe could happen...?:dolphins:

Good post man! I agree with your post 10 fold, i think that Saban is definately building this team strong from top to bottom. It all starts in the trenches and Saban knows that, this is why were stacking up on the D tackles.

Traylor is only 36. Still old but 2 years younger then you give him credit for
yeah, he is still effective. i dont mind adding depth to both sides of the line. i wont criticize that

We definitely need a good 3-4 NT, what we have are good 4-3 DT's.

This is something the VIP forums been discussing for a little while now. Saban may not have the same definiton of a NT as the other 3-4s because of his need for stunting/slanting DL. His NT must get penetration, thus Evans is a candidate for that as is Manny Wright. Rodrique Wright more than likely is a possible Carter successor. Holliday's successor if he recovers could be Vickerson or Wright. I have feeling Matt Roth on the other hand will be switching behind J.T. soon once David Bowens leaves.
