First off coaching. Imo Wanny was a good football coach, he just was not good at managing his players and was stubborn in his philosophy. Now we have Saban, a major improvement over Wanny. Saban is a smart tough coach who demands perfection as well as effort but more importantly knows how to get players to achieve it. He has a track record of creating dominant teams, and during his hiring he was referred to as a top 5 coach in the country. Major Improvement.

QB's. Imo the only thing we gained here is experience. What Feeley gained last season is just what he needed to get his chance to be successful. Feeley's experience from last season along with a supporting cast should give Feeley enough not to lose us the game. All we can really expect from him. Little Improvement.

Running Backs. Last year we were relying on a scat back (Travis Minor) and a Fullback (Sammy Morris) to carry the load. This year we have Ricky Williams and Auburn Standout Ronnie Brown who was the Second pick in the 2005 NFL draft  . Their backups are either the starters from last season or Kay jay Harris and Lamar Gordan. Major improvement.

WR. Only key addition is Boston. This group is loaded with talent and was Imo subject to terrible QB and O-line play. Put this group with Tom Brady and NE's O-line and you've got a top 3 receiving corps in the NFL. Not a whole lot of additions were needed here. Little to no Improvement (However didn't need it.)

O-line. The biggest improvement lies in the coach. Hudson Houch who has a reputation for taking crappy O-lines like ours and turning them into one of the top units in the NFL is now in control. Our O-line was like a sailboat on dry land. All the talent was there, Now it's Hudson's job to push it into the water. Stockar McDougal is the only addition worth mentioning as he will compete for the RT spot. Average improvement.

D-line. Even though we lack gigantic interior lineman, we still managed to improve this area. Kevin Carter (Nuff said), Vonnie Holliday, Keith Trailor, Manny Wright (Immature USC standout) Matt Roth (Iowa Standout)! I know Wright can not be counted on this year and Trailor's best days are behind him. But it is safe to say this unit has been significantly upgraded. Big improvement.

LB's. Florida standout Channing Crowder WILL be a good player in the NFL IF he can stay healthy. Donnie Spragan, still fairly young and coming off of his best year in Denver with 67 total tackles. Not great by any means but not to shabby either. Seau will be back and if he can stay healthy, he will provide an situational spark and leadership. Jason Glenn, solid depth. Zach Thomas will no longer be our only standout LB. Big improvement here.

Secondary. Imo this is the only position that suffered during the offseason. Will Poole, Surtain, Knight, Freeman. . However, Travis Daniels is playing for old coach Nick Saban in a familiar system. Mario Edwards was added for depth after starting last year for TB. Shulters will take the starting FS job to replace Freeman. Tebuckey Jones did well in NE during their first super bowl run, but under achieved as a Saint. He will most likely take the SS job. No improvement here. Side Note- New England was not exactly loaded at CB last year but they managed to get by some how. ;)

Imo We made some great improvements this offseason. The biggest improvement is in our coaching. Why I wrote all this crap....I don't know. I was running this afternoon and I was going over all of our key additions in my brain then I realized.....We might be O.K this year. Just thought I'd share.

YOu didn't even mention Gus in your QB assessment. Whether he starts or not, he upgraded the QB position because either HE or AJ will be taking the backup spot that Jay occupied last year.

Then how in the hell can he be considered a good coach. What else does a coach do? Evaluate talent...he sucked. Motivate his players...he sucked. He sucked in every phase of the game. He may be a decent human being, but he has as much business being a coach as I do giving birth.

And.....
In what way was he a good football coach? Who did he teach to be a better player? What football innovation did he promote? I'm not trying to be a$$h@le or anything, but seriously, football-wise, what was he good at?

wanny was good at getting what he wanted:

he wanted a stout defense and a ball controlling offense, so what did he end up with?
1. a defense that didnt allow a 100 yd rusher a whole season
2. a #1 ranked pass defense (contestable or not)
3. a league sack leader
4. a rushing title

he wanted some things for his team and he tried to them mold them that way,
and by all accounts his goals came to fruition. in that aspect he was a good coach.

HOWEVER, he didnt want all the right things. if he was a better coach he wouldnt have been so shortsighted, he wouldnt have ignored half the game of football.
and that unltimately was his downfall.

i dont want him back, i dont miss him, i dont even care if i never hear his name again,
but he wasnt the worst coach in football, and he should get some props for 4 seasons with good records. i mean, we could have had rich kotite...

Too bad his goals were never about winning play off games then. Seriously, he had zero to do with most of that.

1. Foundation of that defense built by JJ.
2. See #1
3. See #3
4. At the expense of the rest of the offense by giving RW nearly record carries so his tank was so empty he quit.

i completely agree
they still happened tho
he got the team he wanted
too bad the team he wanted couldnt win a playoff game

Well damn! My intention of this thread was not to argue about Wanny being a good coach or not. And yes Ferrote slipped my mind. I created this thread just to pump us all up and remind us what a good Job we did this offseason. Instead I get a bunch negative feedback about Wanny. Thanks!

May I ask why you focused on that part of the entire post? I clearly said how much better of a coach Saban is and yet you still attack me. Read the rest of the post man before you jump all over me. You missed the entire point of the thread.
