This is getting national attention now and I am sure team are game planning based on this. They know that no matter what happens Miami will run the play called or call a time out. With only 3 time outs per half they know that the odds are in their favor if it is a pass play, and they call a blitz, that Miami will not allow Tannehill to check out of it. He has to run what is called, no matter what, and that for sure gives defenses a distinct advantage.

If the play is bad, and the team doesn't want Tannehill to call an audible, then he needs to be able to look to the sideline and get a play. You see this in college all the time. Look over there, Lazor needs to signal in a new play, and they need to get that one in place. I know they don't have much time, vs the college play clock, but something needs to be done to throw the defense off.

Any solutions?

New OC?
New QB?

I posted this earlier. Great question. I don't know if it's what Gannon said about because the offense itself. Or is it the inability to trust the qb?
Honestly, the way some of these blitzes are, esp when we are backed up, you would think it would be practical to audible and change blocking.

Lazor and Chip Kelly are both about as stubborn as it gets with their offensive game plans.

They both believe the QB shouldn't have to audible because on every play there should be a mismatch the QB needs to exploit and win in their offenses.

It's stupid and antiquated and too much to ask of your QB . . . . although Ryan definitely needs to do a better job of recognition and knowing where his hot read is and getting the ball out of his hands.

IMO, despite the success Ryan had in this offense last year, it's really not a good collaboration. Ryan made audibles under Sherman and he seemed to navigate much smoother back then. Now it's like . . . "well look at this blitz thats coming, they are sending 7 and we have 5 . . . . but Bill says his system is superior so lets test that theory".

Something needs to be done.

was he doing audibles under Sherman, because he had a lot more sacks under Sherman it seemed. I think it's a great debate, because this vertical offense needs an extra second to make the deeper throw. a chip here, a pull here, and we could get that extra time

He had a lot of sacks in 2013, when our offensive line was by far the worst one we fielded in the Tannehill era . . . but yes, he was allowed to audible and under Sherman he was one of the best QBs against the blitz in the NFL.

I can't remember exactly what our offensive line was in 2013, but the one we have right now . . . even with Thomas/Turner at guard, BLOWSSSSS that one away.

I agree with this. Sherman's offense was more vanilla and didn't have many weapons, but it used RT's strengths better. Lazor has lots of weapons, but doesn't leverage RT's strengths.

Ironically, I watched the Philly offense yesterday rolling Bradford out of the pocket frequently. Even Sanchez threw on the move multiple times.....yet Lazor, who is a Kelly disciple, seems to not want to do so. Odd....

I don't remember Ryan audibling under Sherman either. And anyone remember "go" and "go go"?? The QB can't be trusted to change out of plays and adjust the tempo/play on the fly. He is not what I want from the QB position. The upper echelon QB's all audible and command their offenses.

He absolutely was allowed to audible in Mike Sherman's system . . . no question. The Go, Go Go crap I have no idea where that came from, but Tannehill had audible ability as a rookie and in his second year . . . . and I don't think there was a limit to it either. He knew the ins and outs of the Sherman system and was given the freedom to do what he wanted.

People complain about the oline right now, I think its more a system based problem for us under Lazor . . . where as in Ryan's first 2 years it was more a lack of talent at the skills/oline, lack of experience at QB issue.

I heard somewhere, from a press conference I believe, that every play sent in to Ryan has multiple options. It's his job to choose the right option for the defensive lineup he sees. That's not the same as being able to audible to an entirely new play.

My gripe is, Ryan seems to wait until the defense is completely lined up and ready before he starts his cadence. Why not get your team up to the line and take advantage of the fact the defense isn't ready yet? Catch them off guard, or maybe late to cover a receiver. We need every advantage we can get. Don't let the defense get set, just attack.

This happened twice yesterday when the slot was left uncovered. A quick snap would have resulted in an easy play yet we hesitated and they eventually got it covered.

Too many moving parts in Lazors plays to be a hurry up offense. It seems like we use up the entire play clock on most plays with all the different players in motion.

Ryan, IMO, is just not comfortable in Lazor's system, and I say that even after the season he had last year. He is more robotic than Chad Henne when it comes time for him to move with his feet inside the pocket and either step up and find a guy or get the hell out of there and scramble for a few yards. The only time he moves is when he is being directed to move, he rarely ever moves instinctually and even when he does, it has an awkward look to it . . . . I know, crazy for a guy with his athletic ability, but just watch him.

I understand not firing Lazor and trying to implement a new offensive system 4 games in, but I don't see Tannehill making any more real gains under this system and with year 5 next year, we need to get another OC in there to see if he can get the best out of RT17.

you guys don't think at some point while lazor has been here they didn't try to implement some checks or hots or auds? they must have at least tried it in practice. and im guessing it failed miserably so they scrapped it. there's just no other explanation for going to the line stuck in a play no matter what look you get.

They need to hand the reigns to Tannehill, when he had the ability to change the play and change the blocking assignments to cover the blitzer like he did his 1st couple years here he did a good job of recognizing it. I watched the Pats/Giants game last night and that's how Tannehill should be as a QB.
