The Jets are gunna be tough from years to come. Just like the Pats were. The Jets are better than us in every position. They came a long way and looked great once Sanchez got his game on. Yes we beat them twice. #1 it's was earley in the year plus we were home.. #2 if Ginn don't return them kicks we lose.. If we played the Jets now.. We would get our butts handed to us.. We really need to have a strong draft plus free agency.. It's gunna be tough to win the Division in the next 3 years.. We are so set back it's not even funny.. We have no defence and no offence. We scare no one. Just hope Bill pulls in some talent cause it sure would help.. Go Fins.. Love ya no matter what.. But all kidding aside. We really need to get players and the right DC to get this job done. :thanks: for reading and don't care about my spelling. I'm about 15 deep right now. Plus 2 shots of JD.. Lol

You are definitely a glass is half empty kind of guy. This is the NFL. Fortunes can turn on a dime. I just don't see the Jets as a perennial nightmare on par with the Patriots or Colts.

1. The Jets avoided major injuries this year. That's a rarity for many teams. Any one injury can change your season.
2. The Jets have 3 offensive line starters that are experienced but on the downside. Alan Faneca is in year 12. Damien Woody is in year 11. Brandon Moore is in year 7.
3. Braylon Edwards killed us in one game, but the inconsistency that plagued him with the Browns is still there. Not to mention his off the field immaturity still cropping up.
4. Mark Sanchez is surviving at QB right now. He isn't lighting it up. Maybe he will be good in seasons to come, but will he be All-Pro good? I don't think so.
5. Look at the Jets' starting front 7. The starting front 7 averages about 7 years of experience. Not too old right now, but when you look at their depth chart, none of the guys in the second string are proven players. The Jets have a lot of roster building to do and they've given away some picks.

My point being that the Jets don't have a player or a system that will make them a perennial Super Bowl contender. They're on a nice run right now, but let's see what they do in the offseason before we anoint them annual contenders.

I don't know if it's quite as "gloomy" as you are saying. As if complete doomsday is upon us. While it's true i thought we were a better team than the Jets.....which we were, back in week SEVEN, it's clear we aren't anymore. I'm not sure i want to say they're for real, a legitimate contender, but they are a good football team that is playing much better than they were at the point of the season when we beat them twice. It SICKENS me to say that but it is true. They are a better team than us, despite us "having their number".

With that in mind the number one goal this off-season has to be to narrow the gap between us and them. A gap that may not be that wide (if we are healthy). I think offensively we're a better team than them, they do have a solid offensive line and run the football very well but we do the same. Defensively it's not even close, the Jets are strides better than us. Thats where we need to catch up. Hopefully this front office makes an effort to do that this off-season or that "number" we have of the Jets will soon expire.

3 reasons not to be worried

1. we beat them twice this season
2. Henne > sanchez
3. we have the kryptonite for their D and his name is Ted Ginn, lol

The Jets primarily need a couple wide receivers and, as an afterthought, some backups to groom in the trenches.

They are winning with a qb who has total of 16 college-games experience!!!?!?!?!?
That's how good the Jets team is.

Better at every position?

QB Henne/Sanchez * tie

RB Brown/Jones * tie

RB2 Williams/Greene * Jets

FB Polite/Richardson * tie (I know I'll get killed for that on here but Richardson is just as important for the Jets as Polite is to us)

LT Long/Ferguson * Fins

LG Smiley/Faneca * Jets

C Grove/Mangold * Jets

RG Thomas/Moore * Fins (close but our depth there gives us the edge)

RT Carey/Woody * Fins

TE Keller/Fasano * Jets

WR Edwards/Ginn * Jets

WR2 Bess/Cotchey * tie

WR3 Hartline/Clowny * Fins

WR4 Camarillo/Smith * Jets

I know these WR depth charts are hard because they change but I think no mater how you match them up it would fall close to a 2-1-tie advantage for the Jets

LE Elis/Langford * Jets (could change by end of next year)

NT Jenkins/Ferguson? * Jets

RE Starks/Douglas * Fins

OLB Taylor/Thomas * Jets

ILB Crowder/Harris * Jets

ILB Ayodele/Scott * Jets

OLB Porter/Pace * Jets

The LB spot is where the Jets have some serious space between themselves and us. It is the main upgrade we must make before all others.

CB Revis/Davis * Jets

CB Smith/Sheppard * tie

FS Wilson/Rhodes * Jets

SS Bell/Leonhard * Fins

PR Bess/Cotchery * tie

KR Ginn/Smith * tie

K Carpenter/Feely * tie

P Fields/Weatherford * ?

So the way I've got it it's 14-6 advantage for the Jets with 8 ties. Are they better? Yes, but better at EVERY position......no.

On to your 2nd statement in bold

Sanchez got his game going? 12 for 23 100yds and a 60.1 qbr, If they had to depend on Sanchez to win a game for them I'm not so sure he can at this point but Henne did it 4 times this year (I think)

Sanchez has limited his mistakes and been at the helm for 2 playoff wins so thats why I have them tied (for now, I think Henne has more upside long term)

3rd statement

The fact remains that he did return 2 and special teams is an important part of football, I wouldn't diminish it.

4th statement

If you listen to other players/coaches and media types they realize this is a hard nosed physical team that is a growing force. Injuries took there toll by the end of the year but I have no doubt we will bounce back next year.

I do agree with you that we need a REALLY strong draft and possible 1 or 2 big FA signings or we could fall behind the rest of the east pretty quick.

How can the Jets having a magical run right now set the DOLPHINS back three years? Let's face it, the Jets likely are not going to win the Super Bowl, so what will they really have gained from this run? Nothing really, in fact it hurts them going forward. If the Colts didn't rest in Week 16, the Jets don't win that game and finish the season 8-8. They would have had the 14th overall pick in the draft.

Now, the Jets once they lose to the Colts will have the 29th overall pick and will have all sort of restrictions in free agency that really will prevent them form signing anyone. Unless the Jets win the Super Bowl this season, this run will only hurt them in the long run.

I see them falling back down to earth next season.

As for us, if no CBA is reached I don't see us fixing this defense and to a lesser extent the offense. There are only a handful of difference makers on defense that would be unresricted free agents.

Julius Peppers
Karlos Dansby
Vince Wilfork
Casey Hampton
Ryan Pickett
Gary Brackett

And then there is a big dropoff. If no CBA is reached I'd rather just continue building through the draft instead of putting alot of money into a bunch of middle of the pack free agents.

If a CBA is reached, tell Ross to get his check writing hand ready.

The Jets had a good team last year finishing 9-5. It's not like Rex turned the team around, he inherited an already good team. Right before the playoffs, they played 2 teams with nothing to play for who rested their starters. Two easy wins right there that vaulted them into the playoffs and now they're playing the underdog card and squeeking by. Fact is, Cincinatti and San Diego make their field goals, the Jets lose. But, both teams miss 3 field goals and lose. The Jets must have some serious kicker voodoo going on...

I'm not worried about the Jets, after all we swept them both games this season. I think we are on the rise; we reload with a decent FS, ILB and some pass rushers who can get it done and a DC and we are back in contention for the AFC East. If anything, I'm worried about the Pats more than I am the Jets.

hey i hate the jets more than anyone but you are really grabbing for straws here...

how in the hell could making the conference championship game with a rookie qb set a team back? that gives the jets invaluable playoff experience to draw from and build on.

and the draft is such an inexact science that the difference between #14 and #29 is marginal. only the top 7 or so picks are really special, then the rest of the first round is about the same - talent-wise

We can't worry about them. Only about us.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Ginn and Jason Allen have about the same talent as Ray Lewis and Ed Reed.

1. We avoided major injuries only losing 2 of our most important offensive and defensive players. I guess people forget we lost Kris jenkins and leon washington?

2. We do need to address the Ol in the draft as a couple of our guys are getting old but they can still play and we have our C and LT for the next 10 years(barring injury).

3. Edwards didn't have a full season w/ us and played w/ a rookie QB. he'll only get better, we'll live w/ a drop here and there but he's been great for us regardless.

4. Sanchez is growing up before our eyes, the training wheels will be off next year and he'll begin to blossom.

5. We had to replace Kris Jenkins, we have good depth.

I do feel we are set up for a great future but things can change in a heartbeat in this league so hopefully this team seizes the opportunity in front of them right now.

1. Congrats, that means alot right now.

2. way too early to say that, while sanchez improved late in the year and in postseason Henne regressed.

3. that's true:lol:

I didn't say it will set the Jets back, what I said is that it will hurt them in adding top talent this offseason. They don't have a full set of draft picks after a few trades they made and now those picks are going to be very low in each round. Yes, the draft is never set in stone that the best talent comes from earlier draft picks. However, you are more likely to get a better player with a higher pick. Doesn't always work like that, but the odds favor higher picks.

Really, where the Jets hurt the most will be in free agency. I know the final 8 rule doesn't allow the Jets to sign an UFA unless they lose an UFA to another team. I know the final 4 rule has even more restrictions, but I don't know what they are just yet.

All I am saying is that the Jets team you see today is really the Jets team that will be on the field in 2010. Yes they are good, but they don't have much room during the offseason to really better themselves. However, the Dolphins, Bills and Patriots don't have the same restrictions during free agency and have higher draft picks.

All I am saying is that the Dolphins are not set back three years because of what the Jets are doing right now. We did sweep them this year and have won the past three meetings. Unlike the Jets, we have the ability to really improve our roster during the offseason.
