Simply put.....is to beef up the interior line.

I'm getting excited with what I hear these days as it pertains to the Trifecta and their apperent plan to re-up Carey who along with Long will make great bookends for the next 5 seasons. Assuming that's done, and with Smiley, Thomas and Satele coming back....we need only add another Center and guard that fit the Tony Sparano type who can maul opposing defenses DT's and LB's. I'd be shocked if FA C-Jason Brown, Draft eligible Centers Mack, Unger and Wood along with OU Guard Robinson. One or more of those players will be available to us at pick 25. Cameron Wake's signing lessens the need for a OLB pick at 25 even though I would not be surprised to see that being the position selected.

I see Miami going into '09 with consierable more beef in the interior line to open up the inside lanes for both Ricky and Ronnie. The "Wildcat" is not the personality of this team moving forward. Let's be clear on this. Between the tackle running is where we need to focus and we simply could not with Thomas (Linsfranc), Satele (labrum...played thru it) and Smiley (leg) all hurt last year. More depth, more talent and a devotion to run inside is where we're headed and I'm totally stocked about that.

It also opens up the play action for Ted Ginn (entering his 3rd season) to get behind the defense. Pennington did an admirable job getting the deep ball to Teddy last year but not nearly often enough. A solid inside running game will further exhibit Ginn's talents and it's time for him to approach his draft status by displaying it consistenly on the football field.

I'm stoked about this regime getting the personel in here (and having our current personel get healthy) to do what needs to be done. When (not if) that takes place in the coming months, this offense will begin to display it's true personality and many a AFC East foe will learn to dread it for seasons to come....

well said...we for sure need to beef up our interior...i've read alot of posts in here about Thomas&Smiley coming back, but nobody seems to be thinking about...what if they don't come back...or if they do,and don't play like before...if we resign Carey, that's great...that locks up both our Tackle positions, and make sure we have solid depth there as well...we still need to address&fix our Center&BOTH Guard positions,as well as depth there too...i would absolutely LOVE for us to run the ball right through our interior down the opposing defense's throats and completely demoralize them...again,well said in my opinion...

I really haven't taken a liking to the prospect of having Thomas(specially him) and Smiley return to our starting lineup. There are times where I don't really get all this finheaven love for a player who only played one game this season. Bill Parcells in the past has expressed his dislike for injury prone players and I don't think these starting jobs will be handed to these guys as if they own it. At least Smiley played most of his games last season; however, up until Thomas manages to play a full season as a starter then there will be a lot of question marks about this young mans health.

Our interior line was really weak last season(don't give me the Satele crap), and we can surely blame that on our guards inability to stay healthy; in addition, to the lack of performanc we got from these backups.

I don't see our team drafting a center with the first pick. The interior guards is probably a bigger issue to take care of.

Our first pick will more likely be a defensive player.

Nice post. Well Said. Good to see people who appreciate the non-sexy postions of the linemen, and realize it is the most important part of the offense.

I was expecting to click this post, and see another "We need Henne's strong arm" thread. I would have thrown up. Thank you for not making me vomit.

We need Henne's strong arm...sarcastically said...do you feel better now?

i really hope thomas can come back healthy and produce for us.. i was really excited about him before the season

I think we need more similar talent for deth than an actual upgrade at the position.

Henne has a strong arm? Really? I had no idea.

sorry, but we only gave up 25 sacks last year and thats pretty good.

its great to have good o-line guys and depth but they do not catch
passes and score points. that is what we REALLY need to "unlock"
this offense. our wr's are great complimentary types but they are not
dominant or consistant and couldnt score with a free hooker!!

HE WITH THE MOST POINTS WINS!!!!

NRA,we all know you love your WR,and i agree,we do need WR,but i feel we can get by with who we have minus Wilford...but what we can NOT do is run that ball at ALL in between the Tackles out of our base formation...only time we effectively ran the ball in the middle was out of the Wildcat...unless my eyes were messing with me...we seriously need to address the interior of our OL...both Guard positions and the Center position, and quality backups as depth...once we do that, then we can look at the WR positions and address them...but we need to have a straight D O M I N A T E OL first&foremost...or in my opinion we do....

How about a center who can play guard...Eric Wood.
