Last night I was watching the CMA's and Criminal Minds, and channel surfed over to the 'talking heads' on the news channels. I came across Dr. Drew with Ricky Williams and a panel of ****ing women phd psychologists. Some actually understood that social norms are not the norm in a NFL locker room.
But one thing that really bothered most of the panel was the language in the TxT/VM. The use of the N word was something they wanted to understand. Ricky said you could go into any locker room in the NFL and hear the same language 50 times a day. The panel was shocked. And the truth, as Ricky put it, is the NFL isn't for everyone.
But back to the language and the use of the N word, its something the talking heads can not understand. The current crop of most NFL players were brought up listening to the likes of N.W.A, Public Enemy and later in their youth years, Tupac and Biggie. These players were brought up in a culture that said certain language was alright. Tupac in interviews on shows you can still see, said as much. Tupac who is held up by alot of the progressive black community as a great artist with a message of empowering the black community. Classes to this day are taught on campus across this nation, concerning Tupac as a poet and great writer.
With the likes of VH1 and their Behind the Music series who still glorify the roots of N.W.A and their rise to fame and power. The message is still there for today's youth. Eventually, Tupac took it to another level. And this is a culture that is now reaping what it sows.
SideNote: I'm not bashing the music. Because frankly, late 80s and most of the 90s rap music, are still my go to music when rolling around in KC visiting friends. Todays rap is crap, but old school beats can not be messed with.
