A lot of people are over analyzing the Larry Johnson signing. The Dolphins are kicking the tires on Johnson, simple as that. The signing has NOTHING to do with Daniel Thomas or his progess. They have added a veteran who is idolized by Daniel Thomas who can teach the young rook a couple tricks, mentor Thomas & add depth to the runningback position if all goes well. The Dolphins knew about Johnson because the runningback not only lives in South Florida, but is very good friends with Jared Ordick.

Odrick is close to the Johnson family. How close? Larry Johnson Sr., was Odrick's Dline Coach at Penn State. Odrick & Larry Johnson have been working out all offseason and the Fins were well aware of it and the shape Johnson was in. Johnson is said to be in excellent shape and weigh in today at 225.

The Dolphins first brought Johnson for a workout when the news of Tiki Barber was reported. The Dolphins worked out two RBs that day, Tiki & Johnson. If Larry Johnson impresses in the next two preseason games he is expected to make the team. The Dolphins have kept 4 RBs the last three years on their roster and Johnson could find himself a spot on the roster if all goes well. Johnson has 2 weeks and several practices to make a return to the NFL.

The way i look at it is, Kory Sheets was not only not productive but absolutely expendable. Do i see Larry as an upgrade.. eh. Do i ultimately see him making the team, eh...

But if you look at the signing in the same way as any practice squad player that we have signed lately, which I do... this is back of the newspaper news. Not going to lose sleep over it.

I think he's over the hill, and would rather have an rb3 who has some upside and can contribute on special teams.. but this signing is meh all around for me. Nothing big, and shouldnt really be talked about.

The truth is the Dolphins gave Kory every opportunity possible, they really hoped they had something in him. It was not only his lackluster play that got him cut. The guy was said to be a primadonna, he was more interested in extra curricular activities than football. Sheets did not get cut just cause of his play alone. As someone in the know told me he had potential, but his mind is not in the game.

If Thomas learns anything at all from LJ it will set the young man back a few years I'm sure. 2 words to describe Larry Johnson, even in his prime: "Hot" and "garbage".

I'm surprised that a high character guy like Jared Odrick is such good friends with a guy like Larry Johnson, who earned the reputation of being one of the biggest douchebags in the NFL off the field.

Choosing players based on family connections usually works out well for the Dolphins.

I see him getting released in a couple weeks for a young running back that falls off another roster during cuts. I don't see him anymore than a guy to take carries late in the preseason games so we don't have to risk any of the backs who we plan on keeping for the regular season.

I think he was signed simply because there was nobody else out there except a 55 year old Tiki...

if lj been working out with Odrick that is a real good sign
odrick appears to be in excellent shape..

Running backs seem to do better when they get a year off and he will have fresh legs.
LJ was the cream of the crop at one point an unstoppable force in goal-line situations.
He could teach Thomas a few things hopefully he has leared from his off the field issues..

i like the signing

I really hope we find a way to keep Grigsby. I much rather give him a shot then LJ who at best will be a 3rd down back, or a short yardage back..I know we have Bush who is a better faster stronger version of Grigsby but I personally like finding our own gems..but I do hope LJ does good and we get lucky.
