Chess anyone? Seeing as how Olindo Mare is shaking us down because of the scantness of the place kicker possibilites these days, what say we throw this off on someone else.

First of all we have to make a trade for a mid second round pick because both Dallas and New Orleans are projected to draft Mason Crosby in the 2nd round.

We beat them to the punch and draft Crosby first, solving our kicking problems for hopefully at least 15 years.

At the same time, seeing as how Crosby is the only true NFL ready kicker in the draft, we have created significant trade value for Olindo Mare. We may actually get something for him instead of having to cut him or get him to re-structure his contract.

He really disappointed us at the beginning of last year but he finished quite well. Mare that is.

Crosby is the real deal. He hits the ones he should hit and he kicks them out of the end zone just like Mare.

There are a number of trade scenarios to garner a mid 2nd round pick. I like the draft Samson Satele trade Rex Hadnot to Pittsburgh scenario. But I'm a huge Satele fan. Green Bay would also probably be a willing trade partner for the right price. Maybe one of our veteran receivers and a second day pick would do it. Pitt would of course need more than just Rex too but with Hartings retired and there almost nonexistant cap room, they shouldn't be too hard to convince that a low cost above average center would be good for their team.

What do you think of the deal Mare draft Crosby thing???

it doesnt really matter that there doesnt appear to be too many kickers out on the free agent market, mare's value is down... he had his worst year, hes in his 30's (not THAT much of a deal for a kicker though), and his contract might be too high for other team's tastes. this trade scenario sounds good and makes sense but i think we should keep mare for this year at least and see how he does. we have more needs right now than kicker that we should get in the 2nd round even with a trade, how bout cornerback? how bout outside linebacker? OLINE!!!

Dude....you already posted this in the other Mare thread. Not sure why you need to start a new one.

come on guys why dont we keep mare and slot him in our reciveing corp LMFAO sarcasm, yeha he is done here in miami, we need a kicker like robbie gould

no way we nned to draft a kicker also james wilhiot from tennessee is an excellent kicker and i think the dude from louisville broke all kindsa records this year we can pick up either one as a udfa

If we draft a kicker that high, everyone knows we are cutting Mare (or Crosby). How does that make them more valuable? Maybe we should draft a kicker in every round and sign all the free agent kickers. That'll teach them!!! *insert evil laughter here*

How does drafting Crosby increases Mare's trade value? Wouldn't it decrease as we would have two high priced kickers and will have to get rid of one?

Yup. And Mare's inconsistent season and price tag isn't going to help either.

The key to Miami's offensive future is using draft picks wisely to draft offensive players who can help to build a good offense so that Miami can score points and not relying on a kicker winning a game by a last second field goal. Sure a kicker is important but not as important as a good offense that must be built through good draft picks and the right free agents.

If Crosby falls to the third or fourth round then sure I am for it but lets not take him in the second! Thats a 2rd round pick gone on a kicker even though I think he is the real deal!

kickers are every where .take the pats in 05 they brought in a UFA to camp who was robbi gould. He kicked good but because of adam they let me go.This year they got ghost in 4th round and he had a tremendous year.

what you need to proper talent evaluation.

a K in the 2nd would be disastrous
Agreed. Mare is the highest scoring Dolphin ever. He had problems last year, but he has a strong kick. He was horrible towards the beginning of the season, but better towards the end. If a K is to be drafted, I would only do it in the 7th round or thru FA.
