It's a fluff piece, but it is the off-season. Optimism is the name of the game this time of year.

The storylines have been abundant this offseason, when it comes to the Miami Dolphin offense. From the new additions in free agency, to the return of starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill.
While the attention maybe on the offense, the defensive side of the ball could be the reason why they get to the playoffs.

Depth is much better this year and if the LB unit can perform average we have a shot at top 10 for sure.

We have some young talent of defense but also a lot of questions. Good coaching would go a long way. Need to develop and also use each players the right way.

well I think this is gonna be one of the best secondaries in the NFL and I don't think that's me drinking Kool-Aid. Fitzpatrick and Jones are a top 5 safety duo immediately. If Howard can step into his own we are cooking

Especially with Chancellor retiring.

Secondaries are as vital as ever in professional football.

Denver and Seattle rode their's all the way to titles. I like our team being built similarly to those two.

Atlanta blew their title because of their secondary.

New England was able to steal what should've been Seattle's second SB win because of a play made by a defensive back.

I like where we are going. We need someone else to emerge from the group in addition to the big 3.

How do you figure that if the LB unit can be average we would have a shot at a op 10 defense? What are you basing this on?

Maybe because they where we’ll below average last year.

Maybe because they where we’ll below average last year.

Wouldn't that imply that outside of our LB corps we were really good and talented everywhere else? and if not for our below average LB corps we would of had a top 10 defense last year?

We were 26th in sacks, 14th in run defense, 23rd in rushing TD, 16th in pass defense, 23rd in pass TD, 30th in penalties, 28th in INT's, 28th in pass QBR, 30th in RZ defense, and most importantly 29th in points given up.

If an average LB corps takes us from the 29th in points to top 10 than that's phenomenal.

I feel the opposite. The offense is going to have to carry the defense IMO. No question there are some young players on defense who could make it a good unit, but lots of questions as well. The biggest being whether Miami can stop the run.

We might still get gouged in the running game. Suh has huge shoes to fill and Spence won't fill them.
