Should the NFL need to take a cue from the NBA?

First off, just wanted to say sorry for interrupting all the Aaron Brooks threads, being as interesting as they are....... :shakeno:

.......... but I was listening to the "Positive Side of Sports" on ESPN 860am out here in AZ (w/Roy Garabaldi and Roy Green)........ they had Charles Barkley on today for his usual Thursdays and the Chuckster started talking about how he thought that Texans kicker purposely missed last week, that the team looks prepared to tank it in order to get Reggie Bush.

That reminded me of the debate that raged following Saban's post-game comments after the Cleveland debacle. Barkley went on to say it's about time the NFL adjust it's draft into using a draft lottery system. He said it went on all the time in the NBA and that played a big factor in why they adopted their lottery system.

What do you all think?

No its unfair The bad teams will stay bad its football, less injuries , low salary cap it wouldnt work

They will stay bad? How do you figure?

What if the Texans get the 32nd pick.. Sure you could pull out some good players but the #1-10 overally players will probably have greater affects , team changing affects, than the #22-32 overall players, and so on for each round.

If when the PAts won the super bowl they got the top 5 pick two years in a row on a lottery based system they would be unreal, possibly

because in a lottery system you arnt guaranteed a low pick you still have the best chance, but its not guaranteed

the team with what would usually be the 10th pick can end up with the third

how is that fair?

especially in the NFL

yeah lets let chance dictate who gets the top pick and then we'll have a 7-9 or 8-8 team getting premium talent? Stupid idea in any league. If you have to put up with a crap season you should at least be able to look foward to a good drafting position. What if last year after enduring the worst season in our team's history we didnt get the second pick and didn't get Ronnie? :fire: :fire: :fire:

The NFL will never go that root. In fact, I think a lottery draft is a dumb way for the NBA to go.

I really don't think teams in the NFL throw games on purpose. Look at the Dolphins last year. There they were at 2-11 with a shot at the #1 pick in the draft, yet they go out and upset the defending champs. If they were really thinking draft, they would have been destroyed by the Patriots.

I also don't think the Texans missed that FG on purpose, I think they are just that bad. No team likes to have that "loser" sign above them after the year. Sure the first pick is nice come April, but most teams will do anything to avoid that. Plus, you have to give the worst teams the chance to select players that can turn their team around.

Are you telling me that you would rather have a lottery system in 2004 and potentially picked around #20? Would you have really liked to see the Jets or Eagles draft Ronnie?

Unless im mistaken, isnt NBA lottery top 5 picks?

I would of hated it last year but I would love it this year :)

If that ever did happen then it should be only for teams that did not win 5 games. Then they all get the same opportunity to get the highest pick.
That could of been the worst kick i've ever seen, it was reminiscent of the kick at Soldier Field a few weeks ago with the wind.

Oh im ignorant to the way it works

I assumed it was lottery for all the teams? I guess im wrong, sorry

I think its fine the way it is and I realy doubt any NFL team loses on purpose. Remeber Capers is coaching for his life, no way he throws a game.
The only thing I want the NFL to do the same way the NBA does is to put a price on draft pick slots so there is none of there rookie holdouts who end up signing HUGE deals when they havnt proven anything yet.
