The Dolphins are traveling to the Mile High City to face a Broncos offense that, despite last week’s hiccup, is still the most dangerous in football. Which means this might be the worst week to make this argument, but here goes: Miami has the NFL’s best defense.
This thesis derives from 11 weeks of film study, though the numbers quietly back it nearly as well. The Dolphins defense ranks fourth in points per game (18.0), second to Detroit in yards per game (302.5) and is tied for sixth in takeaways (19).

Article by Andy Benoit from MMQB where he straight proclaims we have the NFL's best defense. We have been getting praise all year long and it just keeps coming. Hard really to argue that we don't have a top defense if not the best. Hopefully our defense can continue perfrorming at this high level and the offense can keep getting better. Only good things to come if they do.

I remember when everyone said Coyle was in over his head...wasn't to long ago. Funny how he looks competent now because he has better linebacker play.

He looked over his head early in the season with some of his gameplans and all the off coverage. Don't know what to attribute it to, but he's looking a lot more than component now. The gameplans seem better, the players seem to be performing better.

It's funny he says we have the best D, but then shows stats that don't have us #1

Just found that funny.

I know what to attribute it to. Our defense is designed to perform at its best when the offense is also performing. The defense looks better because the offense is actually helping now.

I didn't think it was possible for an entire organization to "progress." Offense, Defense, and coaching staff have all gotten better. We looked dismal the first 4 weeks and Tannehill was on the verge of being a back up for life. . now we're a serious playoff contender with what I think is a franchise QB.

What a strange, yet wonderful season.

Huh, it's almost like getting comfortable with a new offense, getting a key starter back from suspension, and getting Philip Wheeler off the field results in a better football team.

Offense scores points, Defense wins championships.

And when you say Miami...

The whole team is doing great, and I love watching this defense roll up sacks, fumbles, and picks. We may not hit the playoffs this year, but next year we will win those Packer and Lions games to to get in.
Still hopin' for this year..

i can't agree with that. Of course it's a factor, but the unit is gelling much better than I've seen in sometime. I attribute it more to the emergence of Jenkins and the stout play of Misi. When the linebackers are doing their job it gives Coyle a lot more freedom. Either that or he's just learnt how to use his personnel better.

And yet nearly 50% of finheaven probably wants to fire Joe Philbin at the end of the season.

I love these types of articles before you play the best offense in the league. SMH.

The defense is better this year because of three reasons (IMHO).

1. The offense is keeping the ball longer. Less time on the field, less 3 and outs to put them back on the field, and better field position all helps the D with physical energy and stamina.

2. The linebackers and DBs are tackling well. The three coaches hired, Lazor, Benton, and Duffner, have all outperformed expectations. It's quiet, but Duffner getting the LBs to tackle better makes everything better. When the LBs tackle well the DBs pick up on it and start to tackle better too. Of course, Delmas is a flat out better tackler than what we had last year anyway.

3. Getting more turnovers. This is due in part to the other two factors, but having the ball in the hands of the offense more often leads to less time on the field, more opportunities for the O, and more points on the board. When you score more the defense can more easily predict the opponent offense.

if this keeps up will Coyle get some head coach looks next year?
