Carey is a young and talented RT who hasn't reached his full potential yet IMO. Everyone seems to want to shake up the o-line by signing Ashworth, moving Carey to RG and Hadnot to C. While the idea of moving Hadnot to C doesn't bother me because he played well there last year, I don't like moving Carey at all. He never played well at guard while here, and his story coming out of college was that he had an awesome year at RT as a junior and a down season as a RG in his senior year. Wer'e better off just addressing C/RG in the offseason and leaving Carey where he is (Trey Teague, 3rd 4th round pick?). Let's also not forget that wer'e in some trouble at LT. Sorry but going from Mcintosh to Shelton is not my idea of an improvement. I hope Saban and Co. know something that we don't about Alabi because I don't think we can afford to spend our first rounder on a LT with so many needs in the secondary...

I am leaning towards allowing Saban and Hudson Houck determine what's the best combination for the O-Line.

Ya, lets leave it in the hands of the coaching staff. If Carey moves to RG, there is probably a good reason for him to be moving. I hate when people act like they know it all.

I'm actually wondering if we'll see Carey at LEFT tackle, Shelton at RG, and Ashworth at RT.

I can't see that happening. Shelton is a true LT, not a guard.

LT-LJ Shelton
LG-Jeno James
C-Rex Hadnot
RG- Vernon Carey
RT-Tom Ashworth

That's a pretty solid line

Seems to me they're having trouble determining just what it is Carey will be good at. I'm still unimpressed with him personally and it wouldn't surprise me if next year's his last if he doesn't really step up and live up to the "potential" he's supposed to have. I'm getting really sick of that word.

Actually, coming out of the draft, most of the draft gurus felt his future was at guard, because he didn't have the footwork to play tackle.

I have posted some of this on another Oline thread as well.

Minus three plus one equals only five guys who have started in the NFL on our Oline roster.

The idea of moving Carey is dependent on finding someone else to play RT. If we sign Ashworth, and so far that's at best an if, then we can watch Houck and argue.

We are down McIntosh, McDougle, and likely McKinney. With only adding Shelton at LT we have to count Wade Smith at C, a position he has not played outside of practice and exhibitions, to get to the five!

Our four reserves were all rookies last year. Alabi, our fifth round choice, Berger, a sixth, Brooks and Thompson, undrafted free agents (and Thompson was a DT in college. He's in NFLE to learn the position!!!). Only Berger even dressed and that was for only three games!

I am not panicking.........yet! There is still lots of time, but we are VERY, VERY thin at Oline!

Yo Yo lets just draft MANGOLD in the 1st hahahah i wish !:boohoo:

But seriously the Line is gonna be good everyone needs to relaxx i think we need to focus on the CB problem at hand

Poole is overrated IMO and Daniels should be moved to Saftey

Hill would be a solid 3rd CB and Poole mabye a decent 2nd Mabye !

I hope we get Woodson before we spend money on Lavar or Peterson
Our back up LB's are pritty good Like Pope He played nasty in that game last year

With all due respect, I must disagree with just about everything you said.

The line may be good but again we have lost or are losing three starters while only adding one guy, Shelton. To get to five veterans for an Oline we have to count Wade Smith at C, his third position in three years and a spot he has not played in a real game. The line may be fine but it is extremely thin at this moment.

Poole was further along his first year than Sam or Pat were their first years and had star written all over him before the injury. Will he come back or will he be a deja vu of Don McNeal remains to be seen?

Daniels is a CB and has been. Moving him to S doesn't make any sense to me. He may be better suited to be a nickle back in the best of all possible worlds but for now he will start for us on the outside

As to Harrington and/or Peterson, I'm not sure what your comment about our back-up LB's has to do with the discussion. We lost Junior Seau who was a starter and have no one currently on the roster except perhaps our newly signed Hodge prepared to take his place unless you want to count on Eddie Moore. If that's the case I think your boss should ask for a blood and urine sample!

Finally, going with Woodson would cost more for fewer years than keeping Seau would have. I doubt he is the answer to our needs.

Actually I did like one thing you said, I would love to have Mangold fall to us at 16. He has all the marks of being the third hall of fame center in Dolphin history. The coaches at Ohio State think he is better now than LeCharles Bentley was at the same point and that shouts volumes. I think from your chuckles you doubt he will still be there when we are on the clock and you are likely correct, imo.

I am not a draft guru. But I am pretty confident Mangold will be available at 16 and we wont draft him there.

Ya, why are you saying that Poole is overrated? I think he is a pretty good corner myself and did pretty well his rookie season. He plays physical and tackles well.
