It is my believe that some fans in here just hate on Channing Crowder for no reason. As an FSU fan, I witness the young man start for the Gators; furthermore, Crowder was a heck of a player for the gators. He was drafted at the age of 21 and has performed exceptionally well for us a player. In 2008 he Started 15 games and still ended the season in the top 5 in solo tackles(3rd among inside linebackers, could have been better if he would have started the KC game), 6 passes defended, and a force fumble. There were some key stops that he made in third down for us as well.

I understand that he should have not made any comments in regards his contract to the media; however, at no point or time has he ever said that he deserves a top 5 linebacker contract. This has been completely overblown by the people in here many times in the past couple of months. If I'm not mistaken he is currently earning 1 million a year. The highest paid linebacker earns around 7 million a year so he deserves at least 3 million dollars a year or so which is nowhere near the top 5.

In addition to the overblown contract talks; one of the most overblown statements is that he gets his tackles 20 yards away from the line of scrimmage, misses a ton of tackles(he has missed a few tackles but what linebacker hasn't in this league?), and that he doesn't make enough big plays like the other inside linebackers. There are only two inside linebackers that have a moderate ratio of sacks, and interceptions. Those linebackers are Ray Lewis, and D. Jackson from the Browns.

Why the hate?

I like Channing and hope he stays but he doesnt have 7 passes defended, he has zero according to NFL.com.

Have you been here? People can hate anyone on this site at times.

I don't believe it has anything to do with hate, just his inability to play ILB.

He can't cover, he tackles poorly, he can't sack, he can't pick off a pass. I mean what's to like about a guy that wants big money????

Miami will do better in the off season.

im with you, pay the man his money, not saying he gets top 5 or 10 but hes a top 15 player.

What you have are team fans here.......
So IMO they are not necessarily hating on Crowder as much as they are discussing the in's and out's of his body of work and whether or not that deserves praise or not (or a new contract). Many people on here believe we could use an upgrade at his position, and i am not against that idea either. I don't hate Crowder, rather, i really enjoy his quirky humor. At the same time i think we can and should upgrade our ILB position.

Zach Thomas leaves big shoes to fill, yes i am aware of this, but we need more production at that position period.

I have not seen anyone "hate on Channing", I've seen fans who weren't happy with his performance and want an upgrade at his position, myself included. If that's hate to you, than you're too sensitive.

well id say its the same as fiedler taking over marinos spot. channing replaced zach. ill admit i was spoiled on zach and dan. when someone takes there spot and doesnt perform to there level, its upsetting. fair or not thats just the way it is. plus crowder had like 3 or 4 years learning under zach and seau but this is the best hes got. plus that special teams comment didnt go over to well.

The Reason Why I hate Channing Crowder

There has been alot of Crowder talk on these boards and i figure I'd throw my two cents in.

He is a solid player, he is pretygood against the run. But for a guy who talks as much smack as he does and the amount of times we hear his name being talked about he just never makes a big play.

Also it always seems as if Crowder is always right there whenever somebody scores a td. I dont know if its his speed or his lack of intuition or what but it always seems like if zach was there that guy would have been stopped 2 yards short of the endzone and not dragging crowder, or making him whff on a tackle.

I used to like Crowder, I thought that with JT and Zachs playmaking ability having a solid 260 pound LB on the outside was a good thing. But now when he is supposed to be one of our leaders on defense he really has disapeared. He also just looks sketchy. he has that creepy smile on his face all the time. My girlfriend saw him and was like "he looks like a serial killer".

I know people will bring up the KC game and how without him our run d was bad and yea I agree to an extent but come on it had to be something else. There is no was a mediocre ILB would make that big of a difference.

In his four year career he has 1.5 sacks, 0 picks, and three forced fumbles.

If we can get him for a decent contract I'd say yea keep him, but if he wants alot of money let him go and lets find somebody via FA or the draft.

Im sure we can use that money to find a replacement and then some.
