Taking a moment to thank Dan Campbell for his efforts this year - notably:

- After taking over the HC position, giving us insight into what was wrong / why the team was playing "slow" - it was a revelation to many that we didn't practice fast or hit, etc - thank you for bringing intensity and competitiveness back to the practice field.

- Getting the players to have fun again; the lethargic play under Philbin reflected a team that simply was going through the motions - the players should be grateful to you for reminding them why they chose to play this sport in the first place.

- Giving us two weeks of cheering and enjoyment that we haven't felt in ages. The wins over the Titans and Texans (franchise first) were exhilarating - seeing the team respond to you made us realize once again the importance of coaching and belief in the skipper. This team hadn't played that well since the SD game the year prior. You injected hope back into a seemingly lost season and got us back in the playoff conversation - even if just for a short while.

- Firing Coyle and Lazor. So many years we have watched this team hang on to horrible coordinators for too long. Tom Olivadotti has to lead that list, followed by Gary Stevens IMO. In fact, I can't recall the last time one of our coaches had the balls to fire a coordinator in the middle of the season, let alone two. Your relentless drive to get better was admirable.

- Your honesty - I enjoyed your pressers. I learned more about how the coaches saw the game than ever before and I've been watching pressers for near 40 years. Your honesty was refreshing.

- Getting the players to play to their abilities - even Dallas Thomas wasn't as bad (he was still bad) after you took over. But mainly, guys like Wake, Suh, Vernon, Shelby really came on after you took over. At one point, I think we went from fewest sacks in the league to most during the first 4-5 games you coached. Kudos to you to motivate these guys to do what they are paid to do.

- Supporting your players - I'm not a fan of coaches who throw players under the bus - it just leads to dissent in the locker room. No matter how bad someone played, you didn't publicly humiliate them. Some here thought that meant you believed they were playing well. Obviously not the case as you kept trying to challenge them with other backups having the chance to unseat starters (Jamar Taylor, the Guards, etc) - but in the end the talent level at certain positions just wasn't there. At least you tried. Prior coaches around here stubbornly refused to push guys who were stinking it up.

- Getting the young players on the field an contributing - Parker, Hewitt, etc - clearly we have some guys who can develop into stars or solid contributors - prior to your taking the reigns, rookies just didn't play enough here under the prior regime. These players will be better for the experience they received, as will the team.

- Showing mental toughness getting the team ready to play a meaningless game against the defending world champs - and beating them convincingly - after being embarrassed by them earlier in the year. That says a lot, it really does.

Finally, handling yourself with absolute class. You are a really good dude. I personally hope you will be back with the organization next season, but if you go elsewhere I, along with many others, will be rooting for you. You are an easy guy to like - I wish you the best in what will hopefully be a long and successful NFL coaching career.

Thank you Dan Campbell!

I had the privilege to watch his first game as a head coach vs the titans, and I'll never forget it. good luck on moving forward.

Although far from perfect I dont see Gary Stevans as being some horrid OC, we never had a truly bad offense with him as our OC.

The funny thing is he was almost the coach of the Eagles, cant remember exactly what happened

i didn't know that. You're right - we always scored points w him. I would not call him horrible - I thought he just didn't commit to the run enough - especially as Marino got older - but then again, perhaps we just didn't have the personnel. Tom O was horrid!

This season was headed for a train wreck. I guess it was a train wreck but the Dolphins were staring at another 2007 type of season.

I guess its going to cost draft position in the end but oh well. Campbell did turn nothing into a few wins and a little bit of hope for a little while. Ended it by costing NE a playoff seed, that's gotta make you smile.

This team was an absolute mess and he went, what 5-7? Considering the mess he took over the end result wasn't too bad. He made a few decisions I didn't get, punting on 4th and 6 for example, forget what game now. Overall though, how many games could anyone have won with what was left of that team?

Hell, he made watching some games this season fun. I give the guy all the credit in the world as a guy who will win or die trying. I hope that somehow he stays within the organization and continues to develop his skills as a HC for the next opportunity he gets.

On the other side, I can't imagine how the hospitals in South Florida are going to manage the massive spike in pregnancies caused by all the women in the stadium just being in his presence.

IF Campbell could get two really good coordinators for O and D, and solid position coaches down the line, I believe he could be a good coach in the Cowher kind of way.

Miami could do a lot worse than Campbell. And judging on track record, probably will.

Campbell has potential but you should hire a coach based on some type of results and he hasnt done enough to be an NFL head coach.
I personally would never hire any head coach that has never been a coordinator. there are exceptions to the rule but most good coaches work their way up the ranks.
There is no reason to just hand the job to Campbell because he might become a good coach

Dan deserves lots of credit. He was not looking for the job with only 5 years in coaching but no one on our staff could have done better.

The Tennessee game and that first half against Houston gave us all a chubby and given a solid staff he would probably make a great HC.
I think he'll come out fine and hopefully be retained to keep learning and be ready for his next opportunity.

Like Dlock says he needs to next get a shot at OC somewhere and do good then he'll be ready for HC.

good point about Dan not looking to be the HC and that he was asked because the FO thought he was the best choice given the staff we had. So right about giving us all wood during those couple games!

This is what I'll miss

He gave it a good shot for his first head coaching job we know he inherited a mess.I wish him well.Down the road I think he will be a HC again.

Bring Coughlin in...make Campbell asst. Head coach and let him groom to take over...perfect scenario.
