yes... one on one, with a running back. Defensive lineman gets to tackle the runner to the ground, offensive guy gets to stop him... in front of the whole team..

Cameron said he wanted to run the “Oklahoma” drill — which pits a blocker against a defender, who tries to shed the block and tackle a running back between two dummy bags — but it did not take place Sunday.

Cameron said he did not want to risk injuries on the indoor turf by running the drill, which is now rarely used in the NFL. He said he plans to start running the drill when weather cooperates.

“Common sense will tell you let’s be safe,” Cameron said. “There’s not a bigger fan of the Oklahoma drill than me, but we want to be smart about what we’re doing.”

Dolphins left tackle Vernon Carey said he’s quickly learning that when the pads go on, he’s fair game.

“You got to be nasty and tough,” Carey said. “You just got to be ready to rumble.”

For any of you guys who have not played high school/college football - "Bull in the Ring" and "Oklahoma" are where you seperate the men from the boys. Ahh the good ole days, just makes me think how lucky these guys are who have the talent to play this game for money.

The Bull Ring was brutal. Back in high school we would run it towards the end of practice when everyone was sucking wind. We ran the Oklahoma everyday and it definitely was one of my favorites. If you wanted to embarrass someone this was the time to do it. Head to head in little space. I agree those were the good old days!

I think the runner is optional....(aka, see the Movie: Invincible). And the above Gator film indicates.

Basically, its two guys of any size in a one-on-one match of strength and skill to see who gets blocked, or who can shed the block, etc.

Did anyone here make it to a college team? I was on the Oklahoma Sooners 'til I broke my knee.......that was that.

Since you guys were talking about the good olde days.......got me thinking.

There's 3 versions that I've seen.

1 on 1 no runner
1 on 2 defensive player vs blocker and runner
2 on 2 DL and Linebacker vs blocker and runner

2 on 2 sucks for the runner

If you have seen the movie Invinsible about Papalle its the drill that he got owned in all the time, until the center told him to look at the knuckles of the other players.

The Oklahoma drill is the one drill that separates the men from the boys. The way we ran it in high school was putting to 2 DL against 2 OL and a runningback against a linebacker. It was the one part of practice that was always exciting.

Double days on Aug 1 .Im ready to see whats up for the JC.

Dayum. I like your avatar. I'm thinking about using it for my sig. :chuckle:
