I'm over here now
What do you guys think of this comment. When Saban was talking about Ronnie not being here, he referred to him as the "The Other Guy".

I dont think Nick likes this whole rookie contract holdout thing. With the amount of money he is going to get anyway, do you think Nick thinks he should be here. He may be pissed b/c they offered him a contract in the ballpark of what was expected. I would think that they offered him more than last years # 2 and Ronnie still refused.

This is something that Nick is going to have to get used to, and he may not ever get used to it.

What do you think Ronnies thoughts were?

Damn, i need to get to camp

or

Do you think he got insulted

I think he is sending a subtle message...in that he wants him here. Of course Brown is going to hear that sound bite. Very little of what Saban says is not thought out. He is towing the Dolphins line on this..which he should.

I'm sure he wants him at camp from a coaching perspective but I think the "other guy" thing is probably being exaggerated in this "way" as he's referred to other plays in the same manner when referring to the QBs or CBs, RBs or whatever.

Anybody who is not in camp, doesn't deserve having their name learned. Simple as that.

Sounds as if Saban needs to re-read his NFL 101 textbook...

This isn't college, you can't treat the players like they are in college. The hardass thing will only get you so far, because the players are going to be around long after coaches if the coach dosn't do well.

Could be just me, but I thought it was sarcasm in reference to the media and the Ricky hoopla.

Exactly, that is old school. It is the type of thing that you would have heard Shula say.

Huh? I wasn't wishing anything, but its a fact that there is a world of difference between college and pro.

Some players will respond to that, but the majority won't... This is a players league, they are the stars, they are front and center...

Whats wishful is thinking Saban can be the same guy he was at LSU or Mich St, his strategy might work, his attitude will have to change.

No, the real problem is when you have a coach that's afraid to assert his authority.

These same players that you think are not going to take this, are the same players that have been taking their coaches' wrath since their days of Pee Wee football.

They KNOW that the HC is in charge, that's the way it always has been for them, and they are smart enough to know that that is the way it's supposed to be.

Anyone who isn't smart enough to figure that out will not be wearing a Miami Dolphins jersey for very long.

Saban is far from a stupid man, and any simple problems that you can come up with, have been harvested and sold long before the tiny seed of thought ever sprouted in your brain.

I don't completely agree with you...everyone has looked at the Pats the last few years and said that they are a team without stars! They play as a team under an awesome coach and that is why they win. Saban wants a team, not a conglomeration of stars.

Yeah being a hard - a@@ coach really got Parcells fired. Didn't it.

Fact is, you can be a hard line coach IF you get the players respect. From everything we have heard, the players like his discipline and organization.

For right now, Saban is the star, he is front and center......Brown is the rookie who WILL BE the star, but I don't think he would have developed that attitude yet.

Putting myself in his place, I think that Saban's comments would have made me a little more anxious to get a deal signed and get in camp. I don't think that he's going to jump at whatever's on the table right now, but maybe relax his demands just a little bit.

excellence :)

It goes back to Saban saying he is only concerned about the players that are here in camp. So he made reference to Ronnie as the "other guy", I think to prove a point. Right now, his focus is on the guys that are in camp. Everyone else is a non-factor at this point. I think it was meant to send a little message -definetly not an insult.
