The Pass Interference call that almost derailed our season!

On the 85 yard TD pass Agholor pushed off Jones to get space. I am fine with the non call if the refs just want them to play. However, that has to go both ways. The DPI call on Jones was bad. As they pointed out, you can contact a WR if it doesn’t impact their ability to make the catch in any way. That was excellent defense by Jones and the refs rewarded the Raiders with a 49 yard flag. You can’t make calls like that with a game on the line unless it is over the top obvious (ie Jones drags him down to prevent a catch or something similar). The officiating in the NFL has been a wildly inconsistent disaster this season. The NFL needs to address the issue because the refs are ruining the viewing experience for fans and it is one of the reasons their ratings are dropping.

Yep. To take it one step further, calls need to be consistent regardless of the team playing. For the Dolphins, that is a PI. That call is not made against the Steelers, Patriots, Ravens, Packers, Seahawks, or Chiefs.

I know for me, the offenses dependence on pick-style pass plays and these referee dependent deep Pass flag plays are really hurting the league. The league has no idea how to rule on these and they are run many times every game because of this. I blame the patriots for the rise of the pick play, could I be wrong, just an easy cheating target.

That call was 100% bull crap. You simply can't gift a team with a 50 yard penalty on such a minor, if any, infraction. When the game is on the line teams have to somehow be made to earn it. The only calls refs should be making are the obvious penalties. The holding and PI penalties are wildly inconsistent. Only call holding if it's an egregious violation that effects the play, otherwise, let them play and stop stopping and starting the game over and over. This destroys the flow of the game and I think fans are sick and tired of what refs are doing to the game. On PI, call them evenly for both teams and whenever possible keep the flag in your pocket. There's WAY too many flags over all and I think any fan would agree. On the challenges it's just nuts how long they take. They go to commercial and when they come back it's still 5 more minutes to get the call, which is many times wrong. Some crews are better than others and some crews I don't trust to be fair to Miami.

The ref that threw that flag on Jones for PI should be out of a job. I would never again trust this idiot or cheat to referee another game. There is no excuse for getting it so wrong unless something else is going on. If refs got fired for wrong calls they'd work harder to get it right. I'd make every ref take a polygraph test regarding honesty and see what shakes out. If they refuse to take the test they're fired. Time has come to better control what the refs are doing out there. Imagine if we ended up losing over that damn call? I'd be freaking apocalyptic!!! We all would!! This crap has to end, the refs will end up screwing the game of football if this keeps up.

The error here is that the official is looking at the play from the front of the recievers not from the back. He has no idea where jones hand is and he couldn't see any grab from his angle. It was such a trash call because the official thought he grabbed or pushed the reciever, but he didn't actually see anything. He really had no reason to make that call because it has to be clear and obvious, not based on what he thinks happened.

It''s already been said but bears repeating, certain teams will almost never get that called on them. Something like the Cheatriots and Offensive holding or PI. Pittsburg is another league favorite when it comes to the ref's. The Raiders are one of the marquis teams that the NFL needs for international marketing so you can count on Mr. Zebra to help out where needed. If the NFL is not careful they will become nothing more than team Pro Wrestling.

Change the damn rule from a spot foul to a fifteen yard penalty and most of these arguments go away.
The NFL/owners won't because they fear that every long ball where a DB feels they don't have a shot at a clear interception will then just result in them blatantly tackling the receiver and accepting the 15yds.
