Looks like Sparano is taking what Pat White deos well and incoorporating it into a package for him while he learns the rest of the plays.. Will be intersting to see this on the field..

The Dolphins look committed to finding a way for second-round pick Pat White to play this season. The rookie has been the source of much consternation over whether he will be moved from quarterback to receiver. I expect that he will have a play or two where he winds up a receiver. But Sparano emphasized that White will not only play quarterback this year but also have a "Pat Package."
Here is how Sparano described it: He said that coaches are finding that it will be difficult to get White in command of the entire offense by the season-opener. But the goal is to have White ready to play in Week 1 at Atlanta on Sept. 13. Thus, the Dolphins are charting the plays he knows well, executes well, shows a flair for conducting, and those plays will be his package. Sparano said when he was offensive line coach with Dallas, the Cowboys did this for quarterback Tony Romo early in his career.

Also some other nuggets

I can't wait to see the Pat Package! All they have to do is get this kid a hole and he is gone, I don't care what position he is in. Great news

No worries! Your post was nicer, just thought i could help clean up my crapier post.

Thanks on the shoes!

Pat Package, wildpat...this kids gonna have a serious list of nicknames!

your looking at it wrong... at least Sparano says so

(On what he is working on with Pat White) -- "Again, I mentioned this yesterday, but Pat has a lot of things he needs to work on right now to get himself ready to play. The goal here for us, is [Week 1] Pat is ready to play quarterback if we need to. So that is a goal and we have made no secret of that. We [drafted] Pat to play QB and that is what we took him to do. So each and every day, with the install, is to try and create what he does well -- a 'Pat Package'. We did that with [ Dallas Cowboys QB Tony] Romo his first couple years in the league. It was more 'let's figure out what this guy can do well for us right now and let's not bog him down with what he maybe doesn't do so well just cause [the coaches] want to do it'. We need to figure out with Pat right now, the things he tends to do well. It is hard to do with the limited reps. Right now he is getting the third reps in that group. But we are starting to figure it out each day. I think by the end of the week, get into this stand up scrimmage and give us a lot more reps and give us a pretty good picture."

(On if he has begun to install a specific package of plays for Pat White) -- "No, I mean, when I said 'that package of plays,' I don't mean some sneaky package of plays with Pat White, I'm talking about as we go on here, you know, what does he throw well? Does he throw five-step well, is he a three-step guy, is he a naked guy? Is he handling the play-action better than the drop-back? Today's practice was all empty out there, is that something that he's doing well?, and trying to grab some of these individual routs and kind of pull them away for him and say, 'hey, he really understands this concept pretty well, he's got this.' This is one he is going to do well, so that in the end of this, we have this package of plays that we just keep working with him with right now. You know, and then worry about what might grow, as opposed to here's the whole thing, Pat, we want you to handle it all. It's not really where we are with him."

seems to me, more like if Pat had to come into the game as the QB, which plays would they run that are best fit for him, that they can teach him now until he can learn the entire playbook... thats the Pat package

How am I looking at it wrong, the plays he knows well is the "pat package" or whatever they wanna call it... We both agree on the same thing

well you said an entire offensive package for Pat, i thought you were talking about wildcat plays and all this other stuff... when Sparano is basically saying they will take passing plays out of the playbook that Pat would be most effective with and start with those...

must have confused what you were saying

Yeah, I guess I should have been a little more clear.. Ill change it.

the pat package could mean zero plays total.when you cant play under center, and the coachs have to figure out what you can do well.its not a good thing.

again... what did i say a few weeks back ?

we'll see pat in some situations where pennington struggles, Red zone, and some third and longs

that's what i foresaw, and hearing that pat is being asked to focus on some specific packages is going in the same direction i was pointing...

obviously, we won't know until a few weeks, but i'm pretty darn sure that's the purpose of the pat white pick

i will disagrre with you this.they will run ronnie in the cat in the red zone, and no way give the ball to pat in 3rd and long.never going to happen.

3rd/long , i'm less sure, but the 20 yards inside the endzone, you'll see pat hit the field often.

we'll see ;)
