The person who will choose our Starting QB for 2005...

Dolphins coach Nick Saban addressed several issues at the NFL owners' meetings Tuesday, including the advantage Gus Frerotte will have over A.J. Feeley in any quarterback competition because of his familiarity with Scott Linehan's offense.
"Well, some of that responsibility has to come... you know... on A.J.," Saban said. "This whole thing is we want to give him every opportunity to do what he needs to do, but he's got to be responsible for his own self-determination, too. I mean, that's up to him."

Wow...if this quote is true then it looks like Nick is sending a message.... Not sure what AJ has or is doing wrong...but Nick has certainly changed his posture ref AJ as the starter.

Really? Funny, I did not know training camps had started yet.. Heck, I didnt even know Mini Camps had started! I guess the only way to study a playbook is to be under immediate supervision of the coach?

Read between the lines for a minute. If AJ was doing what was necessary, the subject would not have been brought up. By talking about what Feeley has to do, it essentially means he is currently not doing it.

If I were Feeley I'd be in there working with Linehan, especially with Frerotte signing. I'd at least be trying to grasp the offense. "He has to be responsible for his own self-determination" isn't something that's said by coaches about NFL QBs on a daily basis.

I wouldn't know why he wouldn't be putting the effort in, He was pretty much the only one who stayed around last year during our bye to improve. Also his interview on The NFL Network lead me to think that he was very excited about this coming year.

Is that for me? If so, it's not bs. They were all judges for the maxim model competition at the Palms casino. It's not like we were all hanging out or anything.

sorry, that wasnt aimed at you.

Don't laugh, but it might be Heather Mitts.

If Feeley doesn't start doing something to impress Saban, like maybe coming in and sitting down with him and maybe showing some interest in the team, he may default his job away. Feeley has been M-I-A since the season ended and he is supposed to be living in S. Fla. so he can have access to the team and to Saban... if he's not off on some boat or beach or golf course somewhere with his GF. The guy had better get himself more involved this offseason.

Anyone else agree? APB out for the Dolphins QB LOL.
Yeah, thanks for the link. As for AJ, nothing he has done in the past would suggest that he wouldn't be somewhere if the coach told him to be there.

That's not the point. When Saban refers to self determination he is talking about the individual taking steps to improve his standing in the coaches eyes.
Feeley should have set up appointments with Linehan, and or Saban to discuss the play book, offensive philosophies, strategies, etc. If he would have done any of this Saban would be praising how determined and commited to the team he is, instead of questioning his self determination.

I think his little talk about Feeley at the owners meeting was to get Feeleys head on straight! It's just my Feeling, but I think it was a message!

My god people read WAYYYYYY TOOOOO much into comments or what they want to read. Geezzz.

Saban comments as to AJ self development were in response to teh question if Gus had an unfair advantage because he knew teh playbook. Saban then said it was up to AJ to take it upon himself. It wasnt a wake up call, it was an answer on whether the competition was fair.

Are coaches asked about unfair competiton between QBs on a daily basis?

Feeley judging a Maxim contest with TO and Simeon Rice....what, Maxim couldn`t get a better third judge than Feeley to judge something like that. You got a Porsche, a Ferrari....and a Hyundai as your judges? Come on!!

people it is the off season. The man has to have some kind of life. This is the kind of thread that is started when someone is bored as heck. The author of this thread needs to have an off season life also.

you know whats scarier then all of this?

that Gus Ferrote may end up starting at QB for us...Ferrote isn't that good without Randy Moss to throw it up to.

I will be furious if Ferotte is the starter. Talk about a waste of time. I would rather Sage or a young guy. Anyone that was born after 1975. If Saban thinks Feeley is not the guy, then we need to have someone to groom, and we need to begin that process this year. Ferotte would be a waste. Saban has not made a dumb move yet, so I am confident Ferotte is no more than just a backup, with knowledge of our system, to help the young guys. I hope.
