Hey all. I have hired an almost doctor (medical student) to do some write-ups on Miami injuries this year. They tend to get somewhat technical as to what the injuries are, how they occur, and what time frames we can realistically expect on returns, and performance. It is called the Phinjury Report. This week, he took a look at Mike Pouncey's chronic hip problems and lays out what the undisclosed injury could be.

Mike Pouncey missed the entirety of the 2014 season due to a labral tear on the same hip this recent injury occurred, making it a strong possibility for re-injury. The labrum is a strong fibrous structure that surrounds the pocket of the hip joint to create increased stability between the femur and hip. When the Labrum is torn and left untreated the athlete may be able to continue physical activity but will be at a very high risk of chronic osteoarthritis.

He has also done write ups on Came Wake's achilles, and DeVante Parker's foot. Feel free to check them out!

The relapse (and/or ongoing repercussions) of Pouncey's injury is a bad sign for the kids career IMO. Given the squatted position he has to work from and the criticality of explosion from the hips on down its going to be a huge challenge to deal with a nagging bad hip joint. Personally I doubt it gets done. Just another example of the negative football karma this team continues to deal with...

Beyond that -- some peeps around here talk about Pouncey (and other players as well) as if they are mechanical parts that can be discarded as trash once they breakdown. I think it's important to keep in mind we're talking about real people who have invested tremendous effort into making it into the NFL -- and its always a "tragedy" to see careers stunted or wiped out by the dreaded injury bug...

I still remember the day Marino went down with the Achilles in Cleveland and those low-class $hit bag fans in the stands CHEERED for his injury! Sports reveals the fact that much of our society is sick.

BNF.

I had the same labrum injury and surgery to repair about 6 years ago. Basically all that can be done is to "shave" the labrum to make it smooth and lessen irritation to the joint. One thing my surgeon told me was to quit running on it. No matter, I still have regular pain with it. Pouncey has a tough road ahead with that hip.

Good to know a little more about what's actually going on with the guy. Thanks

happy to hear the center we just extended to highest paid in NFL status has a recurring injury that may never quite "go away", and he plays on our already most disrupted unit on the roster.

So the near future we will still need a LG, C, RG and who knows how James will turn out? We basically have Tunsil.

I'd hate to question your almost doctor friend, OP, but this is the internet so here I go. This isn't a re-injury. 2014 was the right hip, this injury is the left hip.
