The 77 yard td pass to Edelman. The reason being, for the 3rd time on day, Edelman was lined up in the slot with nobody covering him. As you can see below Rambo isn't even on screen. He was 12 yards back from the line, leaving nobody on Edelman. I get you want to disguise looks and keep the O guessing but this is ridiculous. Brady kept looking over there like he couldn't believe we didn't cover 11 yet again. After the snap, Kiko peeled off the blitz and tried to get back to cover 11 but at that point the damage was done. Couple that with the huge block on Lippett and Rambo's whiff...and well, that is a recipe for letting an uncovered slot receiver free access the end zone.

The million dollar question is how does this happen and how nobody on our side recognize it before the ball is snapped?

Vance joseph wide 9 specialty right there

How, on 3rd and 7 pinned deep in our territory, you don't chuck every WR at the LOS is beyond me. You have to disrupt their timing and their routes. Instead we give 7 yard cushions or just leave someone wide open.

I could have almost forgiven it if we showed blitz with McCain and instead he chucks 11 at the line. But no...he stays with the blitz and doesn't even sniff Brady.

They say throwing to a wide open receiver is sometimes the hardest pass to complete. Pretty obvious that's what Vance Joseph was thinking

I think it is a little of both. We have serious deficiencies at LB, CB and at S. Losing Misi and Jones hurt, namely Jones. Then losing Jenkins and having Lippett learning on the job doesn't help. Maxwell and AQ going down late out is deeper in the hole.

However, when you see things like this play today it makes you wonder how much is coaching. You have to put the players in position to make plays. Clearly he hasn't at times.

I agree. Thing is, this isnt the first time we have had uncovered slot receivers, running backs, or tight ends running wild on us. I've been waiting to see this addressed and it always seems to rear its ugly head every time we face a team with a coach smart enough to exploit it.

If Edlemann was covered and beat his man, I wouldnt pin that on VJ. But blown assignments and crap schemes are more a result of bad coaching than lack of talent.

/shrug

I dont hate VJ, I've been pulling for him all year. At this point though, I don't think I'd be upset if he found a new job.

VJ is in over his head. He has some good concepts, but as a DC Brady was taking candy from a baby.
If he stays, even great talent cannot fix this.
This defense is the worst ever Fins defense. VJ does not get a pass.

If Bellicheat was coaching our defense, he would do a better job. More accountability and better scheme.
VJ could be upgraded IMHO.

Rambo was 12 yds off the LOS and Alonso was showing blitz then had to get to the slot to cover Edelman. I think with other QBs it might fool them but not with Brady. I just hate asking a Let to the slot so quickly and having your safety 12 yards off him on a 3rd and 7. Just hated the call and all that had to be done to cover that
