I'm sure we all remember last year, and the back to back PI calls against us to set up the Ravens with a gift touchdown. Well, there was an article on NFL.com about Harbaugh whining about the PI call against the Ravens on sunday that set up the Chargers go ahead touchdown, and how it was the incorrect call. In the comments section after the article, a Chargers fan pointed out that the Ravens have in fact been the recipients of more PI yardage every year since 2010. EVERY YEAR, and it is more that double than what they give up in PI each year. I have ALWAYS hated the Ravens, and it always seemed to me that Harbaugh was a whiner, and the Ravens got a lot of "help" from the zebras, but wow. I would hate to see us have to overcome the refs again this year......fingers crossed. I hope the link works!

That's insane and Ravens fans wonder why ppl say Flacco is overrated and is the benefactor of just throwing it deep into double coverage to get a PI call.

The Ravens play on the edge and Harbaugh is only whining to deflect the fact that Balt does whatever it takes to win - even when they don't end up winning. Balt had 14 penalties for 98 yards against SD and they knew what they were doing for a lot of them. Complaining about the 14th one is kind of funny, in that context.

Looks like a majority are called at home for the Ravens. Let's hope that ref crew stays in Baltimore this week.

Wasn't that the game they called Hartline for offensive PI when he didn't touch the guy then a few series later Hartline got mugged and there was no call?

PI beneficiary Baltimore
2014 1st
2013 2nd
2012 1st
2011 4th
2010 2nd

New England does well too. Must be something you can do coaching-wise do draw them. That or its rigged...

I would say its rigged designed to help the ones they want to win.But then we know the refs don't do that..Right.

That was the Cincinnati game last year.

In fairness, Baltimore throws a lot of deep balls. You can't get those calls if you don't put CB's in position to interfere.

i would say it's more based on offensive scheme than anything else...

There USED to be the saying that "when you attempt a pass, 3 different results can happen and 2 of them are not good."

We've committed about half the number of penalties that Seattle has incurred so far this season. We're the lowest in the league. We're down there with teams like Jax, NYG, Car and KC. Up with Seattle at the top of the bad-boy list are NE, Den, Pit among others (TB, Wash).

Who said crime doesn't pay?

BTW, Balt is around the middle in 17th, but I stick to my belief that they'lltake the game to the edge and past it if they feel they have to. Street-smart team, imo.

Flacco takes a few deep shots every game, basically just throwing the ball high and up for grabs. He's obviously gotten some help on many of them. And honestly in today's nfl it's a smart play, I wish we'd do it a couple times.

When Shula was oyr HC we used to lead the NFL in least amount of penalties every year. It is what it is. Just make sure we're ready for this game and play the run like men.

it's amazing how you get those calls when you are consistently attacking a defense downfield. Let's give Baltimore a little credit.

For 2 teams: possibly the difference between 9-7 and 7-9 (thanks for nothing refs!)

Ravens AP

Given Sunday’s game between the Patriots and the Jets, everybody knows about Rule 9, Article 1, Section 3(2)(b) of the rulebook.

Before that, not many people did. Including game officials, apparently.

As explained by Albert Breer of NFL Network, the Ravens violated the rule against pushing players on the line of scrimmage in field-goal formation during a late 57-yard try from the Dolphins. The kick, if successful, would have tied the game. The kick, if it had come 15 yards closer after the flag that wasn’t thrown, may have been good.

Per Breer, the Dolphins gave the tape to the NFL, and the league conceded (privately) that the call was missed.

A review of the coaches film available via the NFL’s Game Rewind service conducted by PFT (that sounds so official) shows that Chris Canty was lined up between, but slightly behind, Arthur Jones and Haloti Ngata. After the snap, Canty got behind Jones and pushed.

The temptation to skirt the rule surely increases on longer field-goal attempts, when the trajectory of the kick necessarily is lower. In those situations, a strong push could result in a blocked kick.

The league thereafter decided to make the rule a point of emphasis, prompting V.P. of officiating Dean Blandino to send out a video explaining that game officials would be watching for future violations.

While some Patriots fans may point to the failure to flag the Ravens as further proof of a ****eyed conspiracy against the franchise that parlayed the tuck rule into its first Super Bowl win, the broader point is that the enforcement of the rule was, before Sunday, a work in progress. The Patriots either didn’t understand the rule or deliberately rolled the dice on the 56-yard attempt from Nick Folk, hoping the flag wouldn’t be thrown.

Either way, no one can claim ignorance of the rule going forward.
