I just read an article where it said that Jacksonville's third string QB will be competing with David Gerrard for the starting job next season. I couldn't help but think about the reality of our own QB situation. We have a known commodity in Joey Harrington. Unfortunately, what we know is that he's not it, so...Next.

We have Duante Culpepper who relies on his mobility more than most QBs and is still recovering from major reconstructive knee surgery. There is hope there but not neccessarily any reason for optimism. We have a largely unproven and therefore unknown quantity in Cleo Lemon. He looked okay, but we really still don't know what we have there and need to see more.

In any position on an NFL team due to injuries, competition, and general depth, it's ideal to have at least 2-4 really good players, often a mix between young and old. Well, at QB, our most important position, we've got nothing right now. If you subscribe to any of what I'm saying here then I challenge you to tell me what position is more important for us to address this offseason in particular with the draft and more specifically with either the first or second pick that we have depending upon who's available.

Despite this, I still see some (not all) other fans on here posting their mock drafts full of defensive players on the first 3 or 4 picks. Everyone is of course entitled to their opinion, but I can't help but wonder if these people can't see and agree with me and the points I've made above about our QB situation. What do you think?

You make very good points. The best teams in the league almost always have very consistent play at the QB position. We are almost worse off than we were last year as Daunte is even more of a question mark than he was before and we now know Joey is a lifer as a backup. If the right guy falls to #9 that can solidify the QB position then we have to pull the trigger.
As for getting people on here to admit they are wrong in drafting on the defensive side of the ball.....good luck!!:D

I'm a fool, a nobody, an everyday average Joe but even I know that going offense with our first pick in the draft whether it be a WR, OL, or QB is a must. With all do respect, those with opinions to the contrary are blind, stupid, or just plain ignorant.

Why did Saban let Sage Rosenfal go??? He was better then all three of the Qbs that went under center this year.

Why..

Why Satan eat with his bare hands?,WHO CARE?, you know what? FORGET!!! about SATAN for crying out loud. Now we need o draf a future QB for ths franchise since 1983, it's time for the next step. GO DOLPHINS!! :dolphins:

Anyone have Frerottes phone number??
I think we can all agree that Daunte did not get a fair shake. Lets let him compete with others in camp and preseason. If he is not who we thought he was, let him go. (That last part kinda sounds like Denny Green dont it?)

The problem is what QB are you going to draft?

The NCAA does not have a 1980's style stand out that can come in here and hit the ground running, they have a few decent players but nothing worth a 1st round draft pick. I say beef up the Wide Reciever and Offensive Line positions and try to make a trade for a proven QB or at least a reliable one.

I've personally had my eye on Carr in Houston, he has decent numbers and doesn't screw up too, too bad. :(

Harrington is garbage and shouldn't see the field next year. That much is obvious.

If Culpepper can come back healthy - as he clearly was not this year - he'll be the starter next year. It's tough to say what will happen as with a good OC next year (a properly run offense, and not the Mularkey offense which seems to be designed to stall immediately) the Dolphins can do well. Time will tell how his rehabilitation goes.

Cleo Lemon, for a complete unknown, did OK. He played the equivalent of two games on a 6-10 team and posted a 77.6, which isn't bad at all.
If Culpepper isn't healthy, Lemon should be the full-time starter. If Lemon gets hurt, Marty Booker should be the QB.

Given all of this, I think it makes sense to draft a quarterback with the 9th pick.

I agree too. I think we should grab a QB at #9. I'd like to see the offense get more attention for once. We've always taken care of the defense and that logic hasn't helped in 10 years. Time to load up offensively this year and then worry about defense in FA and next years draft.

I agree, it's time to draft a QB. If Brohm, or by way of some mircale Quinn falls to #9, we gotta whoever's there.

Speaking of our QB situation. There's a rumor that Saban is going after our QB coach Jason Garrett to be Alabama's OC. He didn't get Jimbo Fisher from LSU, so I guess he's going our coaches now. I wonder what Daunte and the other QBs think about Jason Garrett. Hmmm.

I know you guys are going to shoot me down for this but I still believe that Vick has something for this team.... i would give him another chance at QB... the talent is there... its just being wasted on the bench

Thus far I'm not impressed with his work with any of our Quarterbacks. Ferottes success last year was largely due to Linehan and familiarity with his system

As much as I want us to draft a LT, I have to agree as tentative as Daunte is we should draft a QB in round 1 if a good one falls that far. Then if DC comes back well, we just groom the kid for DC's ultimate retirement.
