This may not be breaking news here but the reason we can't run the screen is because no one respects our offensive line. Think about it.. in order for the screen plays to work, defensive lineman need to get up field. BUT if our offensive linemen are cupcakes, the Dlinemen don't have to work as hard to get up field, therefore they don't get themselves out of position to get beat by the screen. For example... If you're a Dlinemen and you're facing the best LT in the game lets say a Richmond Webb, you know that in order for you to get to the QB you have to exert all of your energy and fire off the ball as hard and fast as you can to give yourself a fighting chance. Well guess what, when you do that, it's easy to sneak a screen behind you. Now replace R. Webb with T. Clabo... Now the Dlinemen knows that he can get to the QB without busting his ass to gain an edge on the Tackle because he can most likely beat him going 3/4 speed giving himself time to recognize and screens or trick plays, When this happens and we try to run the screen, the defender is still in place to make the play. The bottom line is that When the oline is broken..... a lot of plays don't work. IF WE DON'T FIX THAT WE WILL NOT SUCCEED.

Not sure that's the case. The DL isn't going 75% because 3/5 of our OL isn't very good. They're NFL players, they go 100% every down. If anything the play more wide open against bad players because they know they can correct if need be.

I'd put it more on OL. Lets face it, John Jerry isn't getting out there to block, Clabo has been a surprising failure, not sure how good Cog can move. That leaves Pouncey doing the really hard task of snapping and getting out and JMart. I'd put that down as a bigger hindrance to a screen game.

Why is that Dolphin wearing a Bengals helmet?

I was about to say the same thing. We cant run screens because we can't set it up quickly enough.

We can't run a screen for the same reason we can't cover one, especially on a 3rd and a mile...COACHING!

It's not that they aren't giving 100% its that against us, they can go at a speed that allows them to 1, effectively rush the passer, and 2, recognize deception plays like screens. Defenders are able to focus on both tasks when playing against our offensive line. If we had an above average online, they would have to pick one. Either rush the passer balls to the wall or do both and risk not getting to the QB. Similar to how pass rushers rush on third and long. They go all out at the QB because they know the offense has to pass. They don't rush as hard on 1st downs because they have to be wary of the run. Same concept.

It appears to me that quite often when we attempt a screen it's set up well enough that the back could pick up substantial yardage, but a key block always seems to be missed.

We should be the best screen team in the league. All the OL has to do is let the rush blast by....they seem to be real good at that. Clabo may be the best screen OL of all time!!

the 3rd down screen to dt in the 4th qrtr was going to be a huge play but pouncy completely lost track of the mlb. this is generally why our screens arent worth a ****. we cant get hats on people in the 2nd level. also, the timing is usually fubar'd as well.

When's the last season we were able to effectively run a screen or stop one on defense? I honestly can't remember. It's pathetic for an NFL team.

Screens would work better if we still had Reggie Bush.

Daniel Thomas and Lamar Miller aren't as explosive in those catch & run situations.

well I'll be... all this time I figured our guys wuz all too stu-stu-stu-stoopit to run a sc-sc-sc-sc-scureen p-p-play - cuzza they’s tiny medulla oblongatta!

Very true. Miller has problems catching the ball, DT can not seem to make one person miss. They both had a couple good chances. That being said, I agree with op. We can not seem to execute a screen.

at this point im fairly certain we can't execute anything that involves blocking
