The Seahawks' defensive scheme

Simmons was weird from the start. He had the size of a small LB and the speed of a safety but he just didnt possess the mental side of the game enough to be successful at a high level. He found himself out of position way too much and it drove his coaches crazy. Hes played for four teams in 5 years and most recently was cut in the 2024 preseason by the Packers and wasnt signed until late November by the Panthers.

With the physical tools he possesses, its a head scratcher why he has had such trouble staying a roster.

yeah I think it comes down to he’s a better athlete than football player.

Test athlete elite. Football iq meh. Be it safety be if off ball likely weakside backer.

Run and chase sure. Think? Nah.

Yeah, Adams was basically a middle line backer in a Tampa 2. When Seattle tried to make him into the help on top he sucked.

James has alway been a chess piece. He can do it all.

Hamilton is what happens when you give a star a zone assignment instead of just taking the second receiver to the boundary.

Downs could do that.

He could be a deep half, an Apex from the nickel or even a star with a zone assignment. The one thing I don't think he could do would be being the Emmanwori type LB Apex on the opposite side.

Nor Minkah or McKinney could either.

I wouldn't make them part of the run fits the way Emmanwori or James can while also carrying coverage.
I havnt started the draft research yet, im football fatigued like never before to be honest. Ill definitely look at Downs alot, im just so fixated on fixing the oline and in particular the RT spot, Downs is gonna need to blow me away to move me off my gut instinct thats telling me the Oline needs a serious overhaul.

I was thinking about this the other day but Miami needs a Byron Murphy level impact in year 2 from Kenneth Grant at least. Murphy isn’t a world beater but he’s trending up and and while he’s a better test athlete than Kenneth Grant we need to see a serious uptick in grants production. A Byron Murphy level is a good imo demand on the pick investment to date.

On another note safety Kobe Bryant may snake free from the hawks and I’d be interested in him. He’s not gonna break the bank by any means. His value does smell a little scheme dependent to me however.

I think Vance Joseph just failed those guys by trying to fit them into zones. He should have just ran some iteration of Saban's defense.

Just ask Simmons to man the second guy to the boundary.

Both Collins and Smmons strike me as guys who can beat you 1o1 but have a hard time being part of a system.

While I understand being frustrated with AJ the very suffering we went through putting up with Borom is where our silver lining lies.

Borom was graded our best player on offense the last game he started before AJ came back. I hope we bring Borom back.

As you have mentioned, Minkah was a stud as a star, Downs is very similar, he can be one of the deep half defenders (cone) or he can be the star defender.

Similar build and athleticism, started at Ala under Saban, transferred when Saban retired, IMO, Downs reminds me of Minkah/MicKinney.

We have Minkah for one deep half, I guess Trader is the other half ATM. Downs would slot in as either the SS replacing Trader in a deep half or as the star.

I personally like Keionte Scott better as a star and I don't think the value is there as a deep half.

I would only get him if Hafley thinks he can't live without Minkah/McKinney level players deep.

From what I’ve seen of trader I think he belongs more in a rotation piece.

I like Scott’s game also but I think he’s likely gonna be scheme dependent. He took some not great angles to the ball in the natty. But there’s a role for him for sure.

GB was part of the pioneers of base sub-packages and tweener ILBs back in the late teens if I recall correctly.

I hope Hafley brings that with him.

I think I'd rather sacrifice some size in the back seven than to play soft/fire zones.

I rather be though against the pass and "soft" against the run than though against the run and soft against the pass.

Plus once you force teams to run you just have to play thougher to get better against the run. If you scheme the run, thoughness won't make you better against the pass.

I know Borom did okay, but he also isnt the kind of Tackle thats going to be a starter on a Superbowl roster. I absolutely want him back as a backup but with Paul "hopefully" maturing into a top 10 LT in the league, finding a RT to go along side him for the next 5 to 10 years to be a top 10 RT is something im dreaming about.

Im sure ill be disappointed because this team hasnt built an oline im excited about in.... well, in my enite life time if im honest, so im sure this dream will die, like all the others. But damn it would be nice to have an oline the rest of the league is jealous about.

We still don't know what the sport will look like after 2030. Football might already be dead, we just don't know it. What if the woke mobs set their sights against it, next?

I don't want to turn this into a political argument but for all we know many of these kids might end up all wearing green as their uniform in the near future.

I fear for the future of football. Indoor soccer has never really competed against soccer but then again soccer already is an Olympic sport.

Until the NFL gives up on Olympic glory or the comittee surrenders their stance on violence and a common ground is met, I will continue to fear flag football.

That Wil Smith CTE movie and shootings at NFL HQ in NY don't help either.

You know what else would help?

All the domestic violence in the NFL. I asked AI about it and here's what it said.

"Football, particularly the National Football League (NFL), has the highest number of reported domestic violence cases among major sports leagues. Studies indicate over 50% of surveyed gender-based violence cases in sports involved NFL athletes, with domestic violence incidents rising by about 10% on days when NFL games are played.
Key Findings on Domestic Violence in Sports:
NFL Dominance in Data: From 2010 to the present, the NFL showed a significantly higher average arrest rate for violent crimes per capita compared to the NBA, MLB, and NHL.
Game Day Impact: Reports of domestic violence increase significantly following NFL games, especially when the home team suffers an unexpected loss.
Other Leagues: While football has the highest, incidents are tracked across all major sports, including boxing, basketball, and soccer."

This ****ing **** infuriates me to no end. It makes me wanna vomit honestly. I dont want football to go away, but I would LOVE a new policy that removes players permanently if they have more than one domestic violence issue. Id be fine if it was a one and done policy honestly. Theres just no room in the world for a man to beat a women. ****ing coward low life piece of shits. They really need to fix this bullshit.

The woke mob is impotent against entities that don't give a **** what they think. How many comedians have they tried to cancel? Athletes? You just have to not bow down to their bullshit, and NEVER apologize, and you'll be fine. They have no power outside of flood damage from their rivers of tears.

If they win the game Sunday then "Yes" I would like to emulate everything they are doing including breaking NE fan hearts
