the shotgun has got to go!

limiting ourselves on offense, by playing 95% of the time in a passing formation isnt utilzing our best weapon... we are NOT Florida State!!! we cant be successful running shotgun off taclke, shotgun hb draw, shotgun pa screens..etc etc...

i miss the old twin I pound pound pound attack... even last years philsophy was more suited towards our talent pool..

also, its becoming more and more clear that wes needs to move up the depth chart... dont care who he replaces in the starting line-up, but he is the only one who plays like he is playing to win... i almost can say i have never seen another player try as hard as he does everytime he touches the ball..

so to sum it up... pound ronnie out of the anything but shotgun... get the ball to the playmakers ( cough ronnie wes cough )... oh yeah, and keep that mouth shut about joey harrington.. daunte is coming around... but what remains to be seen is if he is near his top in terms of a talent ceiling....

Yeah to me its a pretty simple equation, you pound Ronnie and use the run (playaction) to set up the pass downfield. I just think that the playcalling hasn't been in sink. I'm not a Mularky basher, or anything but I think both sides the play calling has been sketchy. Today we were having success dropping 7 and rushing 4, but in the last drive the scored we were blitzing from everywhere and getting picked apart.
 
then why the only way we can score is in shotgun formations ???

I agree we need to run the ball more. I'd also like to see more screens. But we have been in the shotgun so much for two reasons. Our pass protection has been awful, which means Daute needs all the time he can get and , second, Daunte has looked very slow this season when dropping back after the snap.

i agree man i made a thread about this earlier....we don't have vince young and mack brown!!!! get rid of that stupid shotgun every play!!!! we have ronnie frakin brown get under center and run the ball and set up playaction!!!!jesus man!!! i broke two remotes today!!!!!!!!! our OC IS AN IDIOT!!!!! WE ARE DOWN 17-6 AND THEN HE RUNS THE BALL ON FIRST DOWN!!!!!!!!:sidelol: :sidelol: WHAT A DUMMY!!!!!!!!!
 
The Shotgun shouldn't go away completely, never that. But, we MUST give Ronnie Brown some more carries...period. If you think that my comment = taking away the shotgun then so be it but Ronnie Brown has to get the rock more

not saying to do away with the shotgun, but sheesh.... its kinda useless on 3rd and 3...every SERIES!!!

i thought we would have way more diversity with our play selection....thats all....

lastyear was, pound ricky, pound ronnie, hit cc on that wr screen...rinse and repeat...
this year its ... ronnie runs for 4, ronnie catches for 4, then on 3rd and 2...shotgun...draw.(huh?)...

i do believe i overlooked the whole dauntes hurt, and doesnt drop back quickly enough theory.... but it looks bad man, it just looks bad.
 
Ronnie needs to get the ball at least 25 times and they run out of the Shoutgun because the oline is so bad.
 
The reason there running the shotgun is it gives Daunte time to throw the ball. If you want to take away the shotgun you have to take away Daunte because so far the only formation he's been somewhat succesful in is the shotgun. This is another way Daunte is hurting us, now that we are stuck in Shotgun mode for him anytime we try to run the ball out of anything besides shotgun the D knows we are running before the ball is even handed off. This was readily apparent in the Texans game, so much so that it was laughable. We now have no running game because we are forced into shotgun for every passing play.

Yeah, I was yelling at the bar I was at when we were in a 2nd down with 3 yards to go and we lined up in shotgun. Of course, we were flagged for illegal motion and immediately blew our short yardage situation. Man, this offense is horrible.
 
The thought of running the ball to setup the pass is a fantastic idea with one problem. We are still struggling to run the ball. This offense is to the point where we will be better off to run three times and punt, to avoid anything negative, than to attack an opposing defense. We are averaging 12.75 points a game yet some posters are complaing about the defense. Yeah that makes sense.

Yeah, I agree, but when we're in 2nd and 3, is the shotgun really the right formation? That does nothing to establish some balance.

lmao, I just want Joey to come in there just once and we gonna see how he does. I'll eat my words if he comes in and lights it up. But if this line continues its poor play . . . Joey wont even make it out of his first game as a Fin . . . and more than likely he will have SEVERAL turnovers. U guys wanna bash Daunte . . . thats fine . . . but just remember u may eventually get your "Joey" wish . . . but he will still have the same OLine as Pep. Get your "Cleo" chant ready . . . hell maybe even your "Vick" chant. Our QB's will be droppin like flies with this line.
 
We run the shotgun mode because our OL can't protect him long enough and Culpepper can't throw it fast enough.
