The Shula Gameplan Challenge...

Evening all...

Back in 85 when we handed the Bears a beatin at the Orange on Monday night...Shula had to come up with an unusual gameplan to beat the Bears ferocious 46 D of Buddy Ryan. He did this by playing Nat More, a WR at T.E. which gave him some complete mismatches off the line of scrimmage.

Heres your Shula Gameplan Challenge....

Come up with an imaginative way to shut down Vick and the running attack of the Falcons this week. It can be as creative as you want..but it has to make sense. Lets see if we have some budding coaches in the house!!!

I'm pretty sure Shula also had Marino run roll out of the pocket alot as well.

Do NOTHING and I mean nothing out of the ordinary. Just smash their teeth in! Do it over and over and over again. Out play them with intensity and run the ball and then run it some more and when your done with that run it again and then run it again and again and again and again and again and again.

I think playing a lot of nickel would work. With the nickel corner just playing a QB spy the whole time.

play alot of 3-4 with the outside linebackers on contain zones vs. vick. That would eliminate alot of his rushing (i hope).

I like the idea about a CB spy of sorts....

I think blitzing the CB on obvious passing downs can really work. One, he gets to Vick alot quicker. I almost think you keep the linebackers back in their lanes to keep him contained. No doubt you force Vick to beat you with his head. I say head..because his arm is awsome. You cant defend his arm..but he doesnt really have the mind of a QB who reads defenses and hits his recievers on hot routes. You need to make him think. If the play breaks down, he reverts to playground football..and thats when he is most dangerous.

On Madden my buddy runs like crazy on me with Vick. I use the 4-6, outside linebacker contain. works wonders! we should do that

I was going to say...play a DB as a spy who goes on a controlled blitz every play. Drop a line-backer to make up that spot.

Oh...and tell everyone to punch Vic in the side of the thigh when they tackle him. We used to do that against guys who were really fast and it brings them back to human speed pretty quick.

Straight 3-4-4...I wouldn't overly rush Vick at all...but try to contain him while collapsing the pocket...they should never run past him on the ends...but stay laterially even with him. Make him beat you with his arm. He seems to always have a problem with Tampa's defense...it wouldn't hurt to watch their film.
