ALEX SMITH... I am not afraid to say if I had a choice between signing manning to a 3 year deal or signing Smith to a 5 year deal, I'd take Smith all the way.
This kid has improved dramatically each year since coming into the league, and last year looked like a top 8-10 starter in the NFL.

YES PLEASE... still young, big arm, still motivated to improve. Very athletic and mobile in the pocket.

8,000 yds, 49 TD, 27 INT, 60.5% completions in the last 3 years. Over 90 QB rating last year ... I'm very sure that ranked top 7-9 in the league.

Please Ross and co find some way to not bungle this one...

If the 49'ers sign manning and let a potential young franchise QB go, we have to be the one to sign him...

It's not a bad move for either team because with Manning the 49'ers become the instant favorite to win the SB, and with Smith we get a young quality starter who could be our franchise QB for many years to come

One more thing, after studying the limited tape on Matt Flynn, I am really NOT impressed at all... weak arm, not very mobile... no velocity on the ball.

On the reverse after looking at tape of Alex Smith, you see a mobile, athletic, big arm QB who has the potential to be great... and he WAS great last year. and very good the 2 years before that.

He had a bad first couple years in the league, but he's a fast learner... watch an interview of him, he's a smart kid. Now that he's been in the NFL for a while and has learned more, he is becoming better every year... the physical tools have been there since college

Agree -- Sign smith too a 5 year deal - incentive based, draft a top WR in the 1st, draft RT - RG - TE in 2nd and let this team start too shape to the new vision.

Sign Smith and burn some of those third round draft picks to first with Minn and draft Blackmon.

Yea, i totally agree. Alex Smith would be a upgrade over, over Matt Flynn and Matt Moore. He's the next good quarterback, after Peyton Manning.

A very off-handed way to land the top QB prospect of a draft. :p

I never cared for Alex Smith but he did have 5 fourth quarter come back wins and was a top 10 QB last year. He's not going to put up huge stats as shown by his 17 td passes last year but with a good defense (like yours), a strong running game and an elite TE ( we'll need one) he was a great field general who make few mistakes (5 ints I think) and has playoff experiance. Look for the next Dan Marino next year. He'll probably cost more than Flynn but maybe worth it. Not a recomendation.Just an observation.

Not going to get worked up on smith because I think he came to miami to get the market going for him. now seattle out of the picture. If you see smith going to another team for a visit then you know miami is less likely to get him. But we seem to be getting teams to guy into a guy that leaves the draft market more open to us.

The only thing that keeps grabbing me is Cleveland. They do not seem to be doing anything. They too looking at draft.

Is this a sarcastic post?? Alex Smith a "young" franchise QB?? Are you kidding me?

Alex Smith over Peyton Manning... That's outrageous. Alex Smith is not a young, franchise QB. You guys are kidding yourselves.

Great point. We show interest in EVERY QB out there only to lose out but we ellinated teams that may draft QB's and eventually get the guy they wanted all along in the draft. hmmmmmmmmm maybe Irelands smarter than I thought.

Why are you people getting excited over alex smith...he's awful...there is a reason why we are the only team looking him as a viable starter. his best season was last year and it was a much better than moore's. this is pathetic sure nobody knows much about flynn but at least we know he can have a big upside... Alex Smith has shown his upside and its extremely average
