Based on recent activity, I think there are two critical signs that will point to the most likely candidates for our next head Coach:

1. Capers is locked up to a new mega deal - This means we will absolutely hire an offensive minded/background coach. This truly eliminates all defensive background candidates.

2. All indications are that we are keeping Mueller and going to a traditional GM/Coach structure instead of one autocrat making all of the decisions.

When one considers the above two points, IMHO it is likely our new head coach will be a YOUNG coach, where this is his first NFL HC job who also comes from an offensive background. Based on that, I'd say the two most probable candidates are YOUNG Shottenheimer and Cam Cameron...What do you guys think?

Sounds like we got oursleves a Schotty. Hope he's packin buck shot and not bull ****.

When I saw that we re-upped Capers for 3-years at such a high price tag, it pretty much eliminated Rivera, Tomlin, and other defensive minded coaches to me. It's a clear sign that our intentions are to hire an offensive minded coach and have Capers as the DC/Assistant coach.

I hope that guy is Brian Schottenheimer.

I dunno, Cam Cameron could be it as well. I dunno if young shotty is ready for a HC job yet.

Can't argue with that logic.

Pretty much......

But a lot of it depends as of 4:30 PM. If the Chargers advance, I don't really see us waiting that long. If the Chargers lose today, then I think it'd be a fair 1-on-1 between Cam Cameron and Brian Schottenheimer.

Threadstarter is DEAD ON with his analysis though.

Glad to hear you agree at least in principle with the analysys. :) However, why wouldn't we wait for Cam Cameron if the Chargers advance? I mean think about it, who's our competition? Wisenhunt went to the Cardinals. That leaves the Raiders (everybody's last choice) or the Steelers (they are promoting an internal Candidate). We have no competition no? Why wouldn't we just wait until after the superbowl if neccessary to have a second interview with Cam Cameron. In short, we are the prettiest girl at the dance left and we can afford to evaluate all of our suitors before we pick one to go to bed with...

Cameron is not a candidate and Mora is

kinda defeats your logic

you know who the 3 finalists are right?

I know who they have invited for second interviews and I know that they can't invite Cam Cameron for a second interview until his season is done. Otherwise, I don't know anything...

If Mora is the guy I would hope that Wayne is smart enough to put some very strong language in his contract that makes it very difficult for him to leave if the UW job opens.

Because next week is the Senior Bowl. Teams want to have their head coaches there so they can start scouting and interviewing the top draft prospects. The Senior Bowl also serves as a de facto job fair for assistant coaches.

Exactly, I don't think Mora has a shot because:

1. He's stupid. That whole UW deal on the radio was stupid.
2. Satan just did exactly what Mora said he would do.
3. Here he had arguably the most electric athelete to play QB ever, and he couldn't do anything with him.

Why would we hire this guy? We'll talk to him, he could be a candidate, but he's got some baggage that a young guy wouldn't really have. Mueller will probably be very involved in the next round of interviews, so I've got to think that he'll want someone young that he can mould and work with. Mora's relatively young, but he's got too much baggage.

Chan Gailey's possible, but he's a bit old and would be more set in his ways and probably more difficult to work with. Cam Cameron did have a losing record at what Indiana? But in College so much about it is recruiting that many other universities have an unfair advantage, and he's rocked in the NFL. Look that the QBs he's coached. I'd wait for the season to end before making a final decision, I mean, it's not like we have much or any other competition...
