So some are suggesting the league should take away New Orleans franchise tag for their defensive bounty ordeal, as stated here:

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/02/league-should-consider-taking-saints-franchise-tag/

So follow me on this crazy train, amigos.

Without the franchise tag option to keep Brees, New Orleans realizes he demands too much and they won't pay. Peyton gets released. New Orleans sees Peyton Manning and says "Prodigal son, come home!" and Peyton plays the same position on the same team as dear old dad.

Leaving another epic QB on the free agent market.

Ross blows his wad on giving Brees his big contract (forcing us to jettison some unwanted cap space cargo) and Brees FINALLY plays for the Dolphins, the team he should have been on twice before.

Now I sleep for two weeks and see how it turns out.

This will not happen b/c it would set a bad precedent. What happens next year when a team gets caught doing the same thing, but does not have a free agent worth tagging? The league cannot simply judge what punishment to give based on what players are set to be free agents. They must be consistent, so draft pick penalties are more likely.

Dear god, here comes the "we have a chance at Brees" nonsense in waves. We have no chance. Zero. Nil. None. At all. Getting rid of Drew Brees in top condition for the question marks that come with Manning would be possibly the dumbest decision in the history of professional football.

I say the league takes away their first round draft pick this year .....

.... [and we all know who owns that] :chuckle:

N.O. will get a slap on the wrist max.

Goodhell is getting $20M/year ... that ain't gonna last hosing his Billionaire bosses.

Now & again an unpopular owner gets a noogie, but the other owners are behind it!! Just like cops don't write each other tickets!! lol

Brees wants $23 million a year, we certainly can't fit him under our cap without releasing most of the roster. We have 39 players under contract with roughly $14.5 million in cap space. We would have to free up another $9 million just to sign Brees and then another $10-12 million to sign the other 19 players (13 players we need originally plus another 6 to make up for all the players we had to cut) and our team would have only improved at QB and probably got worse in a number of other spots.

Hate to say it but Manning coming off injury and questions about his health would come cheaper than a healthy Drew Brees.

Yeah with no 1st rounder and this is suppose to be a stiffer punishment than those cheating pats...he has to consider at least taking away the franchise tag since they have no first...or maybe they're entire 2012 draft.
