There has has been a lot of talk about how if we had only picked player x over player y everything would have been different.

Case in point Ronnie Brown over Aaron Rodgers.
The question is would Rogers have been as good had he been a Dolphin.

We can all agree that Rogers landed in the perfect situation.
The Ron Wolf protege(Ted Thompson had just taken over GB.
There was no pressure to produce right away and a chance to quietly observe a future HF'er.
HC Mcarthy was a long time QB Coach.
To me Rodgers is a product of both his environment and his talent.
Had he gone to the Dolphins we may have ruined him.

I am not saying that we will possibly ruin Luck. He is very polished and is a lot like Peyton Manning when he came out.

The whole Colts situation petrifies me. I really hope they don't pull an Elway.
 
Guessing we would have ruined Rodgers. Right now, his confidence level in his own ability and the talent surrounding him is amazing. But when he first took over, he took a huge amount of criticism his first few years for holding on to the ball too long and taking too many sacks. Last year was a huge breakout year for him, but the amount of talent on that offense and the offensive system itself is way better than we have ever seen here.
 
You worry to much. If Ross changes Sparano and Ireland, and drafts Luck, our fortunes will change instantly.
 
Do you really think Rodgers would have developed into a top 3 QB under Dan Henning?

Let's stay the course with Tony Sparano, Jeff Ireland and Chad Henne. I'm scared of taking a risk on someone who clearly looks to be vastly superior to what we already have because there's a chance he could turn into a blathering moron when he signs a contract with the Miami Dolphins. I supported Dave Wannstedt until the bitter end and cried when he resigned.
 
The point of this thread wasn't meant to be will we ruin Luck.
FWIW I don't think we will. He is likely one of those unstoppable talents

I think there are a few guys that can come in and elevate everyone around them.
Cam Newton is showing signs of being one of those guys.
Carolina has been in every game this year purely because of him. Last year they were a corpse.

Brady clearly was one of those guys simply because you cannot go from barely starting in college -> to barely being drafted -> to being the 4th QB on the pats -> to being the primary backup -> to being the starter -> to being a 100%1st ballot Hall of Famer.

Very few teams in the NFL get one of those guys. Probably on average 1 gets drafted every year. If you just so happen to be drafting #1 in a crappy draft then you are SOL.


Miami's most important position is to get the best up and coming GM that money can buy and have him set up the rest.
 
I am a believer in transcendent talent. Obviously environment is an influence on their potential success, but this constant theory thrown out by people that Rodgers or any other elite NFL QB would have struggled here is silly to me. Greatness is hard to suppress. Not impossible, but very hard and probably more difficult than nurturing it. The ceiling was just never very high on a Henne, or Fiedler, or Beck.
