If you think the Brandon Albert's situation with Miami is tough then take a look at the Mike Pouncy's situation. Atleast, the Dolphins have a BA's replacement waiting in the wings, The major concern with MP is his hip injuries that is degenerative leading to a shortened career. In short, MP will never be the same again. No amount of correction can make an offensive lineman hips better or the same prior to getting injured. Nobody in football uses his hips more than the offensive lineman. For this reason along with Pouncey's hefty salary cap numbers, I propose moving on from Pouncey. Nobody says this would be easy.
Here are his numbers:
Contract: 5yrs/$44.75 million in 2015
•He has a cap hit of just about 9m per year for the remainder of his contract (2020)
•Dead cap of $5m in 2017 and $3m post-June 1st with $2m(2018), $1m(2019), and $0 in 2020.
Here is the toughest part of the situation:
As you can see, Miami doesn't save a ton of money by releasing MP in 2017 and the cap hit is stupendous, not only that, we don't have a viable option and more importantly not enough draft picks to fill all the holes on the roster.
You see folks, I don't know if MP counts as an injury-prone player but you must admit he missed tons of games, won't be same again and basically not worth the amount of money he's getting paid.
Missed games: 2 (2013), 4 (2014), 2 (2015), 13 (2016)
Although MP may decide to retire (he briefly contemplated retirement). If he doesn't the Dolphins will have these options:
1.Keep him and his $9m cap hit in 2017. If so, do they keep him at C or move him to G. ( I didn't like the experiment last time)
2.Trade him, ( any takers ?)
3.Release him save about $4m but $5 mill cap hit makes it hard.
4. depleted draft picks make it even harder to replace him.
Tough and Unfortunate, isn't it ?
