The Truth About John Beck

have no clue at this point but I think we need to give him a chance and not bring back Green.

I think he can just in Case i would like to draft a QB in the 3rd or even later and i think Woodson might be there in the 3rd round so we can pick him up there

Yes, IMO Beck has the to tools, skills, and talent. Just give him good coaching, a good OL, and skill people around him.

Yes, I think Beck has all the tools to get the job done.
Agreed, I think he has the tools to be a solid QB, however, I think he lacks the tools around him to get the job done. We need to sure up our OLine first of all to give him some type of protection. Then, we need to focus our search on another starting caliber WR, and franchise TE. I believe with time our FO will address these areas of need through FA and the draft.

I was really optimistic when we got him, but he really seemed lost out there when he was playing which leaves me concerned. Everyone targets the rookie thing, but Big Ben, Trent Edwards and a score of other people show that you can at least make PROGRESS your first year.

If we don't get Matt Ryan in the draft this year, I think we have to give Beck the job to lose because I can't deal with another year of uncertainty at that position. No more useless vets. We are wayyyy too far from winning to do that.

I say we develop Beck and actually draft players that would give us an environment that could allow us to truly judge him next to years (i.e. linemen that could protect Beck and tight ends that lives up to the ol' "best friend adage", as well as other things). Time and time again we see players being developed by other teams with success. Shouldn't that tell us that we should actually give our players time rather than giving them only one year (or in Beck's case, FOUR GAMES) before discarding them?

I have to applaud you. Very well said.

It's too soon to know and anyone who says differently is just speculating.

Lots of "can't miss" QB prospects have failed in this league (tim couch, ryan leaf, david carr to name a few) while other guys have come out of nowhere to be great QB's. (tom brady, brett favre)

You usually know about a QB in their 3rd year.

I think you can't judge John Beck on what he did last year, because he didn't have any weapons. The Dolphins need to get him some decent weapons to work with and if he improves, then there is a good chance he is the future. I think he just needs to eliminate the stupid mistakes, like fumbles. If he didn't have those fumbles he would have been (argueably) one of the better rookie quarterbacks, statistically. I think he got flustered last year, with the speed of the game and all the pressure on him that he forgot to use his fundamentals, he tried to be too perfect.

QB's who do well in thier first year are rare, but there is one common demoninator among the ones who do in fact play well as rookies.

They were on good teams. They weren't high draft picks going to teams that were rebuilding, but rather they slipped in the draft to teams that already had a solid foundation including a good offensive line to protect the young QB.

Marino had a great line and great weapons to throw to. Trent Edwards and Big Ben had good lines and solid running games behind them as rookies.

It's not fair to compare them to Beck.

I agree with everything you said in that post except one Lenny.

Beck wasn't a "can't miss" by any means.

You give a rookie QB the responsibility of bearing the entire weight of an offense success is rare, extremely rare. When John was playing he didn't have Ronnie Brown or Chris Chambers, two people he could potentially that could help shoulder the offense. OF COURSE HE IS GOING TO STRUGGLE!!!!!! He wasn't even supposed to play last year. Most successful young QBs usually have someone to shoulder the weight of the offense and usually aren't the main concern for the opposing defenses. Put a solid team, no offense, and you will most likely see a huge difference in his playing ability. Once he has some tools in place I think he can shine in this league, seriously.
