This Landry situation really got me to thinking about the vision of the dolphins management and the execution of that that vision.

A couple of years ago the front office drafted Leonte Caroo... which at the time didn't make sense as everyone THOUGHT that he was the same type of player as Landry. In hindsight the pick makes sense as maybe the dolphins knew then that they might lose Landry this year and was hoping Caroo could be his replacement. The execution was terrible as Caroo was terrible to the point to where he couldn't even get consistent playing time so the odds of him stepping in and replacing the production Landry provided is slim to none.

A couple of years before that, the dolphins Drafted Dion Jordan thinking that he could replace Oliver Vernon if he either didn't progress or progressed too much to where we couldn't afford him.. Again, the thinking was right, but the execution sucked because well... Jordan sucked.

The reason why the patriots can let good players walk is because their personnel department is very good as finding replacements that can actually play and produce. We have no tract record of doing that. It's taken us YEARS to find 5 quality olineman... a TE that can stretch the field, a LB that can cover a TE or a realay #1 WR.

If we're expecting this organization to find a slot receiver that can produce like Landry has..... We're all idiots.

Don't need one guy to dominate targets to replace Jarvis Landry. That's not what this is about.

A couple new guys can replace Jarvis Landry, know not his heart or whatever people call it but they can replace his routes and targets.

Also, when Caroo has actually been on the field he's surprisingly played quite well.

That's the way the NFL works - you have to replace good players because you can't pay a team full of superstars. I'd hardly call it vision - maybe just not being completely blind?

I doubt they drafted Carroo thinking he would replace Landry 3 years later. They drafted him because they really liked him but they wasted 3 picks on a guy that had 3 top guys in front of him right from the get go. They messed up because T-dumb likes moving up but he always gets the worst of those trades

Ozzy rules!!

If this team was full of superstars or even a quarter full of superstars, Landry leaving wouldn't matter.

I agree man. Im just pissed cause it's only over paying Landry few years, but the 3rd year of his contract and looking at WR,s like Brown making 21. 14M is what low end WR,s will make. So Landry,s contract be normal by year 3. Why lose our best player over 2M extra a year. But we pay bums like Kiko, Branch, and Thomas and Cutler like idiots. Sign Landry Miami and cut the BS

I disagree, or maybe they're just that dumb. But they had to have a clear idea how he would be a significant part of their future plan in order to make that trade. He doesn't have the speed to replace Stills, or the Size to replace Parker, his skillset was closest to Landry. They had to be thinking he'd be landry's replacement in case of injury or him leaving. Nothing else really makes sense.

A couple of new guys can't all play at the same time. And we still have Stills, Parker and Drake and whatever TE we get to throw the ball too. I don't trust this regime to replace landry's production be it from one player or 10.

That's what I'm saying. We trade for and Pay other teams guys that we have no Idea how they will fit in here... (Kiko, Maxwell etc..) and let a guy we know can play here walk. I'm ok with letting Landry walk because you don't want over pay him but damn, how about we take that approach with ALL PLAYERS because there are clearly some overpaid players on our team. Suh, Alonso, Stills, just to name a few.

Ever watch that movie "UHF" when they show the TV show of the guy who has the Pet show, and he goes "You know these ants? They get really pissed off when you do this!" and he proceeds to shake up the ant farm that's been carefully constructed....that's the Miami franchise.

We never see things through...we just get too impatient, and we shake things up and are left with a bunch of scattered pieces, leaving us in a limbo'd mediocrity for a head coach to scramble with until someone up above gets impatient enough to fire them and the cycle repeats itself.

To me, I think we've got to be patient and give Gase some time to fully build his system. This is Year 3. We've only seen him 2 years. Yeah, last year sucked, but the first year was solid, and he's showed that he can do some good things with what he has...we've got to give him at least 5 years to build something. If we're still experiencing the same issues after 5 years, then it's probably time to find a new coach. The problem we've faced since Wannstedt left is that we've had a high turnover of coaches and there hasn't been a whole lot of stability, and a real mishmash of systems....

As far as player personnel goes...TBag has to go. He's doing the same **** that he did in NY, and we're paying the price for it. If we flip Landry for a 4th rounder, that's the icing on the **** sundae. I'll lead the charge to fly a banner if I need to. Bring on Brian Xanders.

After last year I'm not of the mind set to give Gase anything after 2018. I need to see a team that is coached WAY better than what we all saw last season. There were a number of big, important decisions that Gase got 100% wrong. The most glaring was Cutler but there was also Thomas and Bushrod and a whole bunch more.

I need to see a vision, a plan going forward that makes sense. I would like to see the FO have a great off season, it can happen but we really need to come out of this Lamdry thing with some value in return.

Ok, so if you fire Gase, who do you bring in to replace him? Do you really trust the front office to bring in a candidate better than Gase to straighten out the ship?

What decisions did he get wrong? Cutler? At the time, it wasn't a bad move...dude had looked good with Gase in Chicago, but it just didn't work out. Tannehill looked good in 2016, and had the whole knee thing not happened, it's possible we'd have seen him take that "next step".

Julius Thomas? Again, wasn't necessarily a bad signing, he'd done well in Gase's system....and who else were we going to bring in? Njoku, possibly, but we were hell bent on fixing the defense last year.

Bushrod? I don't quite get the whole criticism of that one...he really wasn't terrible.

Certainly, there are some things that he could have done better (he was a 2nd year coach), but it goes with the territory. I don't know who you replace the guy with if you fire him...you just wind up setting the franchise back another 3-5 years so you can have YET another coach get "his guys" together, as we've seen rinse and repeat itself over the last 15 years since Pornstache was fired.

I'd give him at least 2-3 more seasons to make the playoffs, barring an epic collapse.

I like Gase. I'm a fan of the initial hire and I still like the guy overall. I'm not anywhere close to saying we should fire him but I want to see a much better job out of the Head Coach. I think Gase and Tannehill are going to have big come back years and I'll be thrilled to see it.

We haven't had an identity on either side of the los in quite a while. We also fail miserably at using players strengths to make the unit better. We have had poor vision and no plan. Players come and go willy nilly

Sad part is last year we probably could have had him for 12M. At least we were able to sign Cutler and extend Kiko a year early!
