I dont know if Im creating a pointless thread, but I plan to create a similar thread every week...

QB Daunte Culpepper vs. Charlie Batch --------------------------------------- Point to MIA

WR Hines Ward (Q) + Santonio Homes vs. Chris Chambers + Marty Booker ------ Point MIA (due to their QB, talent and Hines status)

RB Ronnie Brown vs. Willie Parker --------------------------------------------- Point PIT (due to their OL)

TE Randy McMichael vs. Heath Miller ------------------------------------------ Point MIA (due to their QB and talent)

K Olindo Mare vs. Jeff Reed --------------------------------------------------- Point MIA

OL -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Point PIT

Offense Overall -------------------------------------------------------------- Point MIA

Secondary------------------------------------------------------------------- Point PIT

DL -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Point MIA

LB -------------------------------------------------------------------------- TIE!!!!!!!

Defense Overall -------------------------------------------------------------- Point PIT (due to the big difference between secondaries)

FINAL SCORE: MIA 6 vs. PIT 4

I actually think the OL battle is a tie. I've heard grumblings from Steelers fans that their line is suspect. That effects a lot of battles, because it's going to mean having the front seven in Batch's face a lot, which will force him to make stupid throws into covereage. Remember, Batch was ditched for Harrington, our backup, in Detroit so you know he can't be good with pass accuracy or dealing with pressure.

I only disagree with the defense. You can argue that Miami has a better D-line to make up for the better secondary in Pitt. LBs are about the same. So let's call the defense a tie.

Thats fair, But our Off is in a better postion...As of now :dolphins:

Wait so Parker has the edge on brown because of his O-line?

Than shouldnt our O-line have an edge because of our D-Line?

Personally I dont think this makes sense at all

QB- Miami
RB- Miami
WR/TE - Miami
OL- Pitt
DL- Miami
LB- Tie
CB- Tie
Safetys- Pitt
Kicker- Miami
Punter- Miami
Kick/Punt return - Miami (Steelers lost Randle El)

I dont think thats homerism either, more like facts

The reason the Steelers linebackers are so good is because of Aaron Smith and Casey Hampton.

The Steelers have three caliber Pro Bowl offensive lineman in Marvel Smith,Alan Faneca and Jeff Hartings. The right side is their weakness.

CB Ike Taylor broke up the second most passes in the NFL last year.

SS Troy Polamalu is a pretty good player also.

Since our o-line sort of sucks, I have to believe that Pitt's D-line might be able to get a better push. I'd give the nod to the Steelers there. Pitt may have a very slight edge in the linebacking department.
Basically, Miami has a better offense and better special teams. Pittsburgh has a better defense. I think the overall edge might still go to Pitt, since the disparity between o-lines is so great.

The Steelers secondary isn't that great. They got 2 good players, and two soso players starting back there for them. IMO the Steelers LBing core is better (but Miami's is still pretty dang good, the Steelers defensive strength is their LB core though)

Miami (especially with Batch playing) is a lot more explosive, and unless Batch can hit a few big plays, it's going to be a long night for the Pittsburgh running game.

See, I just dont see the Dolphins O-line being THAT horrible. They weren't that bad last year, and it's not like they miraculiusly got terrible over one offseason. #2 in sacks allowed and 4.4 ypc for a reason man.

I've been wondering this to myself last night while playing Madden 06...what makes the Steelers O-line so good? Faneca is great, Hartings is very good, but I'm not sold on Max Starks and Marvel Smith at the OT. Who's starting at their other OG Kemoeatu or Kendal Simmons? Other than those two guys I don't see the dominance that is the Steelers OL.

I know they play great together, and cohesiveness is really the cornerstone of a great offensive line and it's not about the "names" but I dunno, I still think our DL can really take it to their OL.
