My guess is that he will be battling for the starting job with either a high draft pick or another small free agent signing. If he plays and performs like he did in 2006, he should have no problem being the starter consistently. If not, he only has a one year contract and he would be let go at the end of the season.

According to the poll, most people on here feel that he'll be a starter for years to come (or at least in '08).

I hope he can get back to his 2006 form and continue to flourish, but it's good to know that we didn't invest too much in him when we re-signed him.

My brother and I were having a conversation about the future role of Yeremiah Bell, and that got me to thinking:

How do you all feel about Bell and his future role on this team?

P.S. there's a shout-out to FinHeaven in the column, so make sure to check it out!

Thanks for the link....That was my post that was quoted in the article and I stand by what I said. He will be motivated and have something to prove this year. I cannot wait to see him lay some people out.

he will start this year and then next year Josh Barrett will fill in for him

there should be an option that he'll be the clear starter this year, and we'll draft a decent safety next year to compete, meaning he could lose his job in ~2-3 years. I don't think safety is a pressing enough hole this year to spend the kind of pick it would take to get a guy who will be immediately better than bell. I guess i have to pick "years to come" because technically 2 is plural.

I hope he starts and becomes a ball-hawk. And keep Schulters around to back him up.

I feel like Bell plays best off the bench. He comes in and makes plays. When he was a starter, he got hurt. Unless something has really changed, I would like to see him come in off the bench. Hill is probably better to start if he is healthy.

Hill and Allen start. Bell comes in off the bench.

The problem with that theory is that if Bell does come in off the bench, it means we are in some kind of trouble regarding the SS position...

My guess is that he'll compete in camp, probably win the job by default (no one is here than can beat him out, whether they're good enough or not...). At the very least, this leaves us thin at the S position, even if we draft a guy to be the "future".
